Can You Tell If Someone Sincerely Likes You?

Before Tom Brady began his pre-game interview with Patrick Mahomes, his greeting made a loud statement. There are two factors in this photo that show you Brady is sincere in his positive feelings about Mahomes.
First, look at his hands. The wide spread of Brady’s fingers and the full placement of the hands on Mahomes’ back tell you Brady is not just going through the motions to welcome Mahomes to the interview. If he was just being polite, he would have lightly placed only his fingertips on Mahomes’ back.
Second, their chests are in full contact. My mentor Joe Navarro is originally from Cuba, where this traditional greeting between friends is called an “abrazo.” Can it be faked? Sure, but if you’ve ever felt obligated to hug someone you didn’t know well or didn’t like, you probably limited any body contact and made the forced “hug” as short as possible.
By contrast these two famous quarterbacks did the macho-style handshake first and then embraced. Their words were aligned with their body language. They hadn’t seen each other in a while, so Mahomes thanked Brady for encouraging him after an earlier loss in his career. They also shared their feelings about being dads. While they may not know each other well, their verbal and nonverbal communications tell me they genuinely respect and like each other.
How do you greet someone you like? What about when you're in a situation where you need to greet someone you don't like?

In my culture, "The Dap" -- a complex handshake that may include a series of movements like fist bumping, slapping and snapping is often given to greet people we genuinely like, respect and trust.
