Can you rescue your memory and save your brain from Alzheimer’s Disease?

Can you rescue your memory and save your brain from Alzheimer’s Disease?

Alzheimer's Disease is a tragic and unnecessary life-threatening lifestyle disease. Yet 50 million people around the world have either Alzheimer’s Disease or some other form of dementia.?

So many people are stricken with this disease and the age that we are affected appears to continue to become younger every year.??

One in ten Americans that are over 65 years of age is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Even though those are scary statistics, getting Alzheimer’s is not an inevitable conclusion.??

That’s even if it runs in your family medical history.??

More and more people in their 40’s and 50’s are being diagnosed with Early-onset Alzheimers.??

And those that are in their 60s or older that have Alzheimer's had the disease in their 20s and 30s. The journey of the disease takes years before it begins to show its devastating effects on the brain. So imagine how young the early-onset patients were when it started creating damage in their brains.?

Science is now learning that Alzheimer’s is not a one-cause disease. There are several causes of Alzheimer’s and scientists are learning more and more as research continues to bring forth new information.??

As scary as Alzheimer’s is, there is hope!??

It is now believed that we could be seeing the last generation to be stricken with Alzheimer's.??

This is because we now know that it is a lifestyle disease. With this knowledge we can prevent it from happening as long as we make the correct changes in our lives, starting from childhood. These aren’t hard changes, but they can feel overwhelming.? It is a matter of eating and living a healthy life such as our ancestors did.?

This means that lifestyle changes can stop the disease from causing you damage. That’s even if it runs in your family or if you have the dreaded Apoe4 gene. The Apoe4 gene is an early indicator that you have a 15% - 25% higher risk than others of developing the disease if you don’t make the necessary changes. It does NOT mean certainty that you will be diagnosed with it.?

There are 6 types of Alzheimer’s. This is one of the reasons that they are not able to develop a pill that can help. Not only are there 6 types, but you can have more than one type. Each type has a different health issue that needs to be corrected. Each correction is a different solution which means the possible combinations that would be needed for medicine are nearly impossible to create.?

  • Type 1 Alzheimer’s is caused by inflammation in the body. Inflammation breaks down the brain-gut barrier. It also works to increase the production of amyloids?

????????????which causes damage to the neurons. This will cause the brain cells to die off.

  • Type 2 Alzheimer’s is Atrophic. This is caused by your brain not getting the right nutrients, hormones, or trophic factors to keep the brain’s synaptic connections working properly.
  • Type 1.5 Alzheimer’s is glycotoxic. This is caused by high blood sugar or high fasting insulin. It’s classified as 1.5 because it combines parts of both types 1 and 2. The glucose causes inflammation and your brain cells become less sensitive to insulin.?
  • Type 2 Alzheimer’s is toxic. Its cause is being exposed to various toxins like mercury, toluene, and/or mycotoxins.??
  • Type 4 Alzheimer’s is vascular. Cardiovascular disease is the driving force here.
  • Type 5 Alzheimer's is traumatic. This would be from head trauma due to many issues, like car accidents, falling and hitting your head, or playing sports and receiving head injuries during the game.?

So, what can be done to reverse, or better yet, prevent Alzheimer’s??

Several factors need to be addressed.?

Get your insulin levels tested. Also, test for nutrient levels and hormones. I suggest you find a Functional Medicine Doctor or Health Coach to guide you through the proper testing. Medical staff working in the functional medicine realm can read your test levels for optimal health.???

If you have insulin resistance take steps to correct it. This is important to start working on right away.

Change your diet. The Keto diet can put you into ketosis which has been shown to improve cognition, among many other benefits. Check with your functional medicine doctor or health coach before jumping straight into a new diet. Just because the keto diet works for many, it may not be right for you.

Learn how to fast for 14 - 16 hours a day. Don’t start out doing this if you have insulin resistance. Rather correct your glucose levels and then slowly begin increasing your fasting time. To do this, stop eating 3 hours before bed, sleep 8 hours a night, then don’t eat breakfast for 3 - 4 hours after you wake. In the beginning, you can simply extend your breakfast time by an hour. Say you normally get up at 7 am and eat right away. Try waiting one hour and eating at 8 am for the first week. Then the second week, wait until 9 am and so on.??

Start working on any of the blood tests you had that were not in the optimal range.?

(Optimal range is different from ‘normal’ range. Normal range means the average range for the United States. Since many Americans are sick, the average is NOT optimal. You want to be in the best optimal range to be healthy.)

Start changing your lifestyle to reduce inflammation within your body. This may include meditation, yoga, walking, stretches, weight lifting, tennis, or other exercises that are fun enough to encourage you to continue doing them.

There are also brain games that are important to play. Learning a new language, a new instrument, or taking a dance class is important as a brain game but also as socialization. A healthy social life is important for keeping the brain healthy.??

You can also find brain games on the internet that challenge you to think and figure puzzles out.

This may seem like a lot, but if you look at the number of people that had Alzheimer’s 100 years ago and their lifestyle, you’ll begin to notice that the more we have become dependent on fast foods, prepared frozen foods, boxed foods, and rows of sugary snack foods, the more our risk of getting Alzheimer’s has become.?

Look at the food choices of our ancestors. In today’s world, if you read an ingredients list, you may not only find the list long, but I doubt you’ll recognize many of the items listed in the product. That’s because most of those items are chemically produced to create great-tasting addictive flavors that keep you wanting more. Those chemicals are creating damage within the body’s cells and lead to many of our current-day diseases.?

How does that compare to your ancestors? They ate cabbage, carrots, beans, peas, lettuce, and pasture-raised, hormone-free, antibiotic-free meat. Each of those items has an ingredient list of ONE. There were no chemicals added to work their way into your system causing a leaky gut.? And leaky gut is associated with Alzheimer’s Disease.

They didn’t need a gym to work out, they were busy working the fields, walking to town, and lifting heavy weights to build buildings.??

There was no TV, tablets, or smartphones to keep us sedentary as we numb our brains to video games or scrolling social media.

Their advantage was that the chemicals in today's food supply did not exist. They didn’t have to intentionally purchase organic or pasture-raised. It was all there was. All food and animals were free of today’s poisons.?

Their air was not polluted and their water supply was cleaner than today’s water.?

This made it easier to follow a healthy lifestyle.??

In today’s world, we may need to work at it a little harder, but the gain we receive is a happier, longer, more active life filled with keeping our memories and brain function working properly.

Even though Alzheimer’s is expected to double in the next 20 years, we now know how to reverse it for many, and how to prevent it for most.?

Those that will be exhibiting signs of the disease in the coming years are those that have lived in the world of fast foods and junk foods.??

You still have time to correct the issue if you start making healthy lifestyle changes now. And if you teach your children to enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle, we can come close to eliminating the disease.??

We now know that the Alzheimer’s medicine that is currently on the market does not help and can unfortunately make it appear to be helping while causing more damage to the brain in the background.??

There are, however, many natural herbs and foods that are proven to help reduce the damage.?

If you are starting to forget where you put your keys, or why you walked into a room, maybe blanked out on how to get to the mall, or ran into a friend and couldn’t remember their name, I urge you to seek help.???

Contact a Function Medicine Doctor or Holistic Health Coach that has been trained in Alzheimer’s to receive help for yourself or a loved one.?

There is still time.
