Can you name one thing?

If I asked you to tell me one thing you do every day for your mental health, would you be able to answer me?

We hear the term ‘mental health’ a lot, but how many of us actually know what it truly means, let alone how to access support resources or how to take care of it? In order to take a proactive approach to managing our mental fitness and be advocates for our own mental health and wellbeing, we need to understand the basics.

Last year, we conducted multi-market research carried out by Ipsos MRBI measuring the impact of Covid-19 on respondents’ mental health. This research aimed to help employers to understand how best to support the mental health of their staff.

It found there was a clear disconnect in comfort levels between talking about mental health and actively accessing support services.?Although one third of employees said they felt more comfortable talking about mental health over the previous 12 months than ever before, just 1 in 10 made use of counselling / support services during the pandemic.

At Allianz Partners we want to play our part in reducing the stigma associated with accessing mental health services and supports. We want to encourage dialogue and help people to understand that mental health challenges are normal. Ultimately, we want to help them understand when and how to make use of support services.

So, we teamed up with Dil Wickremasinghe, Psychotherapist and founder of Insight Matters to create an informative 9-part video series.

In this series, Dil shares information, insights, and tips on how best to understand and protect our mental health, in order to live a more balanced, fuller and authentic life.

The episodes look at mental health, how to access supports, how to choose the right therapist and what happens in the therapeutic space. Dil also shares a number of specific examples to illustrate how seeking support may be useful, such as in addressing women’s health and parenting challenges.

The videos are now live on our website and social channels. ?Next time someone asks you ‘What one thing do you do every day for your mental health?’, I do hope you’re able to answer.
