Yesssss!
This is the perfect time to reflect on ancient winter rituals that have inspired us for centuries.
But I was wondering: “Can you apply these ancient rituals to your personal growth and modern business practices?"
WINTER SOLSTICE - Shortest Day Of The Year
The winter solstice is coming up on the 21st December. And the Sun will take it's shortest path through the night sky ...delivering the least amount of daylight and the longest night. This phenomenon must have been pretty scary in the past, hey! Until people realised things got better as we entered a New Year and they experienced more 'enlightenment.'
The tradition of Cristes Maesse (Christmas) follows on the 25th December. But did you know it has pagan roots? And that before Christianity people had their own rituals to celebrate:
* renewal
* gratitude, and
* preparation for brighter days ahead
5 WAYS YOU CAN PRACTICE RITUALS IN BUSINESS
(and mix Business With Christmas)
Have a read, see if the following ideas inspire you to wrap-up 2024 in a ginormous pink bow, and set new Personal & Business Strategies for 2025 - influenced by traditions and ancient rituals.
1. LIGHTING THE WAY FORWARD: Future Strategic Planning
PAGAN PRACTICE: The Yule Log burned throughout the darkest nights. It symbolized hope, protection, and new beginnings.
BUSINESS PRACTICE: Reflect on the lessons learned (positive and negative) and set a long-term goal for 2025. Metaphorically “Burn Away” what doesn’t serve you and build a brighter , light-filled strategy.
PERSONAL PRACTICE: Let go of grudges, against co-workers, family and friends. Make space for forgiveness and renewal in business and personal relationships. Energy is invisible but powerful (talk to Einstein!) … don’t let heaviness and dark clouds over-shadow your transactions and connnections.
2. GIFT-GIVING & GENEROSITY: Show Appreciation & Gratitude
PAGAN PRACTICE: During ‘Saturnalia’ the exchange of gifts symbolized good fortune and demonstrated gratitude.
BUSINESS PRACTICE: Show appreciation to your team, clients, and partners. Gifts are not always necessary, but you could send a personalized message that conveys your gratitude.
PERSONAL PRACTICE: Offer kindness to loved ones—perhaps a listening ear, a thoughtful gesture or support. Sometimes the greatest gift you can give is ...your time and your ‘presence.’
3. DECORATING WITH EVERGREENS: Get A Branding Refresh
PAGAN PRACTICE: Evergreens like holly & ivy symbolized resilience and eternal life.
BUSINESS PRACTICE: Consider a branding refresh—update your marketing materials, website, or workspace for a fresh, evergreen appeal.
PERSONAL PRACTICE: Declutter and refresh your home. Declutter and reset emotional, mental and spiritual mindsets. Invite clarity, light and peace into the new year.
4. MISTLETOE: Make Magical & Meaningful Connections
PAGAN PRACTICE: Mistletoe was believed to hold spiritual power. It was used to bring peace and unity.
BUSINESS PRACTICE: Reconnect with important business contacts. Re-ignite partnerships, and repair strained relationships.
PERSONAL PRACTICE: Reach out to old friends and loved ones. A heartfelt message can repair bonds and create new memories despite the difficulties of the past.
5. Feasting: Celebrate Wins
PAGAN PRACTICE: Winter festivals were marked by feasting and communal celebrations.
BUSINESS PRACTICE: Celebrate your team’s achievements. Host a year-end gathering, reflect on personal accomplishments, and toast to the collective contribution of the team. It takes teamwork to make the dream work!
PERSONAL PRACTICE: Celebrate personal milestones - big or small. Savour your progress and acknowledge how far you’ve come. Sit down write a list of 10 items… and you'll realise that 2024 was much better than you thought.

Moving Into the New Year...
Be inspired by ancient rituals and apply their timeless wisdom. Whether you're re-defining your business strategy or setting personal growth goals. And remember endings are beginnings …and beginning are endings. It's called the circle of life. I won’t break out into singing the 1994 Disney song from “The Lion King” (although I am !) …but I will say:
HAKUNA MATATA
Swahiili for : No Worries ...“There are no troubles”
What winter ritual will you apply to your life or business this year?
