Can You LET GO & LET GOD in Business and Entrepreneurship by Mary Ann Cadorna
LET GO & LET GOD! OK, how easy is that, and what does believing in God have to do with business and Entrepreneurship? Both the aforementioned arenas are not easy, but having faith and believing in myself is what allowed me to go beyond the need to succeed. Because outside of practicing reckless abandon, for me one can’t truly let go and let God unless one has faith and a belief that it can be done.
The greater the risk the greater the reward, but the jump is still scary. As a fellow business person and entrepreneur, I understand that at times we have to make very uncomfortable leaps of faith decisions, and the fear of not knowing if we will make it, can polarize us to stay safe.
The same for me back in 2002, when I first started in real estate, I had to take that leap, and my only bungee cord for safety between me and hitting the jagged rocks below was my faith in God and my belief that I could do this without the support and self-taught! Six months into the business, my faith was rewarded as I was able to garner the highest individual sales commission for my office at that time and made the top 1% my first year.
Two and a half years later in 2005, after I did my first 30-second radio ad spot in 30 seconds flat on KABL FM, my commercials ran over 1000 times. Excited, I knew of no other Realtors doing it, and so I wanted to host a radio talk show. I’d never done ad spots or a radio show before. But my faith and my belief in what God had given me, gave me the courage to let go and go for it!
A few weeks later, I was given the opportunity and I took the leap and landed my one-hour talk show. Thereafter, I had the number one rated weekend program and multiplied the listener numbers by five times what they were previously in just 90 days. This led to my being featured in the California Association of Realtors Magazine, for setting myself apart in marketing with a radio talk show after only two and a half years as an agent. Then in the REMAX International Times as the Ambassador for Real Estate & Radio and the Utah Association of Realtors again, for setting myself apart by hosting my radio talk show.
Although there were other milestones, I wanted to fast forward to today, and it was after exhausting myself as a Real Estate Agent for 20 years, and six years after I wrote this article, I finally got the courage and took a leap of faith to earn my broker's license. Why, because I got tired of the painful sear of being branded, and it didn't represent brand me!
However, by the time I decided to do so, beginning in December 2021, January 2022, and February 22, 2022, the Department of Real Estate had made it harder, for you had to pass not at 60% but with a minimum score of 75%, which is 150 correct answers out of 200 questions. Which is better for we need good practitioners and one should earn it, would we want less from any other professional? So, it was an excruciating 3-month grind of studying, taking the first test and scoring 72%, then, studying harder and taking the second time scoring an excruciating 73%. I didn't doubt my study ethics, for I was studying hard and I was determined to pass. However, I questioned the school after the first two tests given the intensity of my study ethics, I questioned why wasn't I passing. The 3rd call was telling and it wasn't me, I discovered I had been studying from an outdated book, yikes! Now I was cognizant of why it was reflected in the first two test results, and with the current material, the 3rd time was finally a well-earned 75% pass to a Broker's License.
Moreover, my philosophy is never to give up because I know this business, I earned and learned this business in the trenches and I am excellent at what I do! I knew that passing this exam would give me the latitude to do more for my clients, earn more, and provide that high bar of credibility that earning a Broker's License would provide.
After being so devasted by the first two outcomes, I studied harder and harder, and after a monumental effort to pass twice, I finally made it! All I saw from the third DRE exam result when I opened it, was the word Congratulations! YAY! I cried with joy and called my husband, my sons, and my clients and friends. They were so elated with joy, for they all knew what this meant to me, my freedom, for I'd been branded so many times that there was no room back there, and only for one more brand and it was brand me, Sincerity Realty.

But in the theme of letting go and letting God, I believe that my putting the outcome in God's hands the 3rd time, and yes, with a current 2020 publication of Real Estate Principals, I had peace in my heart for any outcome. For I knew, I worked really hard and put in relentless hours of study, and the reward would be a December, January to February journey. Where my 3-month leap of faith would not land in the abyss of disappointment, because the 3rd time, I truly and sincerely let go and let God!
We are called to do the very best we can, and when I've exhausted my mind, physical body, and spirit efforts, I put my hands together, pray, and put it in God's hands. Maybe that is really what Let Go & Let God means, that we place our faith and any outcome in a higher power, so we can experience peace and alleviate the heavy burden of our desired outcome by letting go!
These aforementioned examples, are truly "LET GO & LET GOD" scenarios. There was no guarantee of a positive or successful outcome, and the unwitting results were from my working hard for it and taking the leap into the unknown. So have faith in yourself, and it doesn’t hurt to pray either. For if you don’t believe in yourself, how will others believe in you?
Every one of us has been given a unique and special gift to offer this world. Nurture it, have faith, and above all believe in yourself. For even if you fail, at least you dared to try, and your life experience will be richer for it, and maybe your bank account too!
So don't forget with your faith, God is giving you a NOD to let go and Let God!
