Can You Imagine a Day Without Water?
According to a report from the @Global Commission on the Economics of Water, humanity has thrown the global water cycle off balance for the first time in human history. Destructive land use practices, unequal distribution of water, and climate change are causing unprecedented changes to the predictability with which evaporation and precipitation distribute water across the planet.
The study arrived in time for #ImagineADayWithoutWater public awareness effort to raise awareness about the value of water. Today, we consider what our world could look like if we continue down the current path of business as usual. Dwindling and degraded water resources can severely impact a community’s health, environment, and economy.
As communities across the Southeast recover from two devastating hurricanes, #ImagineADayWithoutWater hits close to home for many Americans who lost potable water service for days or weeks. Natural disasters like Hurricanes Helene and Milton highlight the importance of building water resiliency in our changing world.
Water reuse approaches to water resources management enhance our water resilience by providing a safe, local, and reliable water supplies. Diversifying a community’s water portfolio is the best way to prepare for uncertainties, from earthquakes and hurricanes to droughts and water disputes. The WateReuse Association envisions a nation in which every community uses water recycling to safeguard public health and achieve environmental and economic resilience.
So today, while we Imagine a Day Without Water, let’s also Imagine a Future with Recycled Water!
