Can You Identify An Osprey?

They’re starting nesting season on Vancouver Island (where I live), which usually runs April to Sept. we’re seeing lots on trail this week, and guiding hikes at Smiley Fitness Retreats I’m often asked the difference between ospreys, hawks, and eagles

Here’s a quick answer ????

Osprey, also known as a Sea Hawk

It’s medium size, white belly, brown upper parts and wings. distinctive M-shaped silhouette flying. usually near the sea. Feed mostly on fish

American Bald Eagle

Larger than hawks and ospreys. broad wings, strong build, heavier head and beak. known for their soaring flight, often circling high

Hawk

More rounded wings, long tails. found away from the sea - mostly in woods. hunt small mammals, birds, insects.

Wasn't it an Osprey that caused a power outage a year or so ago in BC Cat Smiley??. My husband's son sent us photos.
