Can you get a job on LinkedIn... Yeah, but not that way.

Responding to a LinkedIn contact who shared they were going on 2 yrs unemployed:

ok, a quick look at your home page/profile, you have no posts. post something at least once per week. ideally some thought you have about work, also post a picture of your cat/dog babies/grandbabies. and also try to connect with as many people as you can, not all of them have to be in your field, connect to interesting people of all sorts, especially folks who you find interesting. it is rare to connect with a person who can hire you, but they may be able to help you in other ways, and even though you are unemployed, you might be of use to them. the one thing i know is not connecting with as many people as you can, not posting anything is a great way to not get hired. and occasional post about your struggles finding work, about the frustration, the fear, is a good thing. not every day, but at least once per month. also, be sure to talk about the things you love. don’t worry about the idiots who say "keep LinkedIn professional" business is life. without giving away information you feel is sensitive or private, talk about yourself and what you care about. people are interested in humans, both in a resume and in real life.

your resume needs to be "human voiced" dont chase a list of key words, they change every week, but a good story is always of interest. A company that use the software that screens for key words ?is not a good company to work for. I have thousands of connections thousands more as friends on FB, a thousand on Mastodon, and i recently joined bluesky and am over 300 friends there. its not hard! Good luck!

Do you have any tips on how to avoid scam jobs that are posted? They’re not as obvious now as they once were- and they’re ABUNDANT on LinkdIn.
