What a humbling and surreal moment when you see your new book on Amazon in the United Kingdom and in France. What a fantastic experience I had while pouring my heart and soul into The Ultimate Retail Manual: Strategies for Retailers to Thrive & Succeed in the Digital World. Throughout this literary journey, I have discovered that I enjoy sharing my insights with others while assisting retail leaders. I have always loved teaching and training about diverse theories, ideas, and innovation within the retail sector. Whether it was about the constantly evolving consumer paradigms or the absolute pedantic nature of providing an experiential shopping atmosphere for the customer. I relish in the opportunity to seek out new perspectives from friends, family, and colleagues with our deep meaningful conversations.
After a couple of years of the universe "nudging me" to write this book and at the behest of friends, family, colleagues, college instructors, and clients, The Ultimate Retail Manual was completed (seventeen months from inception until publication.) My sincerest intentions for writing this manual were to communicate the best practices that I gleaned through empirical data throughout my thirty-year career within the retail sector. I would ruminate periodically, how much further along would I have been in my retail career if I had received one book (instead of haphazardly attempting to gather retail information from numerous sources) that had amassed a cacophony of leadership pillars. This would have afforded me with an opportunity to assimilate from ONE SOURCE a culmination of tangible, poignant, and hands-on knowledge that would immediately increase my retail acumen exponentially.
I remember, as an executive leader, purchasing twenty copies of The One Minute Manager by Kenneth Blanchard & Spencer Johnson and twenty copies of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey for all my store leaders (department managers, key carriers, and assistant managers) to invest in their career development. These books were fantastic and provided a benchmark for leadership however, they were not specifically tailored to the retail sector. Intuitively, I was yearning for one book that was an amalgamation of successful retail constructs, paradigms, and protocols. This would assist me in providing a unified and congruent business instrument that would align all our managers with the knowledge they needed to become servant leaders while drastically shortening the time for them to achieve their career aspirations.
Fortuitously, the Ultimate Retail Manual was created to address these specific concerns with the ever-changing retail landscape by providing a road map that encompasses a ten-pillar strategy to navigate these uncertain times. Currently, I have received the most positive feedback responses from retail leaders regarding the following concepts within the manual: The No Limit Concept, The Big-Small Rule, The Silent Salesman, The Image-Perception-Reality Model, The Dirty Dish Syndrome, Feng-Shui Techniques to Foster an Environment of Auspicious Energy, The Gatekeepers of Your Talent, and Intrinsic versus Extrinsic Motivation.
