Can working from home still be profitable?
Now, whether you are working from home because your business decided to close its office doors due to the pandemic and play it safe, or whether you find yourself looking to start up a home business, you need to apply a few rules.
1. Know that your hours can be flexible but don't fall into the trap of either working too much or too little
2. Set up your home office in ideally a quiet and secluded space (that spot in front of the telly just isn't going to work)
3. Have a schedule for every day - without one, you may find yourself hanging the washing, doing the dishes and every other possible home chore just to avoid work
4. Connect with your staff regularly - much like and possibly more so than you would do if in an office situation
5. Make sure that everyone (repeat - EVERYONE) knows what your working hours are - and that they should not disturb you for trivial things during that time. (this pertains mostly to partners, kids, friends and family) - you will be surprised at how when you say "I work from home" that many will think you have all the time in the world to chat and socialise - in truth - you probably have less time for that!
5. Take regular breaks and get out of the house
And, most importantly, treat your business like the business it is, even though you are not in an official office. You can still make a profit and for some even more than before - think low overheads, less travel, fewer disruptions ...
