Can we trust AI blindly?

AI is the latest advanced technology we are depending on, following our reliance on Google. For a very long time, we have been using and trusting Google. But in 2025, a question arises: can we trust AI? If we can trust it, how much should we trust it?

AI is an accumulation of technologies, algorithms, and processes that can analyze data, make decisions, learn from experience, and perform tasks that typically require human intervention. Gradually, it is becoming a machine that mimics human behavior, which is why it is crucial for us to learn about AI.

According to Demand Sage, there were approximately 90,000 searches per second on Google in 2024, despite the emergence of AI. Additionally, according to the New York Post, 26% of teenagers used chatbots to complete their schoolwork in 2024, an increase from 23% in 2023. Statistics from the U.S. indicate that online searches related to AI—such as text generation and text-to-video tools—increased by more than 100% in January 2023.

These trends illustrate how integral AI could become in our future world. As AI begins to weave itself into every vein of our daily lives, we must ensure not just vigilance but also thoughtful discourse about its implications.

AI often tries to give you a sense of confidence. Its approach can be described as that of a “jack of all trades.” It rarely says, "I'm not quite sure about this," or "I cannot answer this correctly." Instead, it provides answers with confidence, making our minds treat it as a highly trustworthy source. This can sometimes lead to overtrusting it.

Dr. David Dunning, a psychologist at the University of Michigan, warns against placing blind trust in technologies. He states, "The bigger challenge in thinking about technology and trust is that we overtrust and leave ourselves vulnerable to technology’s mistakes."

With its highly advanced capabilities, AI enables the creation of deepfake audio or video. This is particularly alarming in the era of disinformation, where prominent media houses—both national and global—often exhibit biases toward certain agencies or governments. Such entities intentionally spread disinformation to fulfill specific agendas. On top of that, political fanatics skillfully create and propagate fake content.

Using AI, they can generate fake content that explodes on social media, making it difficult for the average person to discern what is authentic and what is fake. This leaves people vulnerable to being misled.

According to Dr. Emily Bell, director of the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia Journalism School, "Generative AI can be used to create higher-quality misinformation... leading to increased potential [for harm]."

Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, has repeatedly warned about the potential dangers of AI, calling it a fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization. Even Albert Einstein expressed concerns about technology overshadowing human qualities. He predicted that if technology outpaced humanity, the world would become full of fools.

Since the existence of the human race is at stake, we can only hope that the safeguards we create will be stronger than AI itself.
