Can We Eliminate Our Karmic Debt?

5th house in astrology is the house of purva punya, or past life merit( good deeds). But all three of the dharma houses, 1, 5, 9, generally represent where we’ve acquired positive karma from past lives. They are known as DHARMA Tricone as they directs us towards our life purpose. This is why they’re considered friendly and beneficial to us, and their lords are the temporal or functional benefics in the chart. Their dashas will tend to be periods of the return of our good karma, and are generally more beneficial than the dashas of other house lords.

This makes sense based on the principle of Bhavat Bhavam, or house-to-house relationships, because the 9th house is the 5th house from the 5th house, and the 1st house is the 5th house from the 9th house.

Effects of good deeds done in previous births, the karmas that were performed in previous births which were beneficial to nature and other living beings form part of Purva Punya. Luck and fate in this birth depends on Purva Punya.

It is due to Purva Punya that a person is born in good family with good lineage, absence of poverty, good education, and absence of mental and physical defects, good behavior and favorable circumstances.

As per our sages, there are three types of Karma. Sanchita Karma, Prarabdha karma and Kriyaman karma. Over many births we keep doing karma, some are good and some are not so good. All of these from various past births get accumulated as our total Sanchita karma.

Prarabdha karma (Karmic debt) is that part of the Sanchita karma for which we suffer and it is our debt to all and everything around us. This is the pending Karma of our past births that we are mitigating in this life. In some births, we may come with less amount of Prarabdha and more or Purva Punya or fruits of our good deeds. We keep adding to it by our Kriyamana karma.

It is mainly the 6th house that shows the Prarabdha karma or our debt to everything and everyone around us. 8th house and 12th house also show results of difficult karmas coming from our past lives, but it is mainly 6th house.

Is there a remedy to pay off our karmic debt or Prarabhda in Astrology?

??Let me share a small story. Many of you may have heard of the great Sage Ashtavakra. He was born with eight deformities in different parts of his body. These not only made his appearance unsightly, but also made living a normal life extremely difficult. On his Guru’s advice he started very harsh penance to get rid of his deformities and pain. Pleased with his penance Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva all three appeared in front of him one by one and asked him to take a boon from them. When he asked them to rid him from his deformities and pain all three of them replied that they cannot, because Sage Ashtavakra got this form due to his own Prarabdha karma and they cannot change it. So when Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar did not want to interfere with Prarabdha karma, who are we, the tiny mortal beings to mess with it?

So clearly there is no escaping the prarabdha.

The only way to mitigate Prarabdha karma is to accept the challenge this life is throwing at you and keep doing your work, pray earnestly to God to give you strength and finally absolve you from the wrong doings and then leave the rest to God. Having said that, it does not mean if you are suffering from a disease, you will not go see the doctor? You will definetly will, but the outcome of it cannot be controlled by you as it is already destined.

However, we can work in this life to create good karmas, which will in turn become our Purvya punya for next life. Also, never shy away from efforts & hardwork.

Remember, all the astrological remedies can only ease the effect of Prarabdha only to a certain extent but never eliminate or escape it. They can most certainly prepare you better to face it.
