CAN WE CHANGE?

CAN WE CHANGE?

More recently, like yesterday or maybe the day before, I wondered deeply:?

Can We Change? ?

I mean really change.? Starting with daily habits, as in what time we wake up, if we are not a morning person, can we wake up earlier and become one. Can we change our morning routine, I don't mean shift or alter I mean change, everything from what side of the bed we wake up on, physically not emotionally, although that may be a great change for some.? Alter what we drink, eat and do.? Walk in and out different doors. Wear different clothes, although that may get pricey.? Eat different foods, I mean all together different foods.?

Do you think you could change your speech pattern? Your gait, your posture, your physical approach to life?? I wish I knew someone that did any of the above, especially the more challenging changes.? I know when I ponder it, I have a lot of reasons not to change, yet just as many to consider it. OK, maybe not a total change, but a 50% change.? Ideally in a perfect and self assured way, you could write a list of what you perceive as your good traits and habits.? One could argue for coffee or tea, blue jeans or slacks, wake up call at 4am or 8am.? We could consider which ones would or could be game changers, then after that list is done, write down the things you wish you could change.? I mean sure, we’d all say things like, I want to be financially free or I want to be taller, but be realistic, these are realistic changes you could act on tomorrow. Action such as, how much you spend or save each month. Somehow I imagine, we all wish to save more than we currently spend, but consider, the what if? Then sticking with it, right?? That is the tough part. ?

Ultimately change is challenging, especially changing the way our mind processes information and crafts scripts regarding people, ourselves and the outside world.? Same as justifying why we love coffee, we can easily justify why we think tea is better for us.? But perhaps, like me, you wish at least half the time you could think in a completely different objective way. As in you could forget or switch between different ways of thinking, one being completely unrelated to the other.? How cool would that be to experience the same problem or celebration in 2 different ways. How amazing would that be? Oh and to be fully aware and present during the process.? As I was writing that, I realized that many would consider, “well that is what I do when I get intoxicated” or take meds, consumable of choice or what have you.? But what if that change were of pure will and execution and afterwards you could compare the two?? How amazing would that be?? Which brings me back to the first paragraph. What if you changed as many experiences as possible, would it make it easier to reprogram your brain? Is reprograming more than just desire to do so? Is there a need to upset the ‘system’ in order to implement the concept of reprogramming? ?

I ask this question, in the throws of diving deeper into the question of: ?

“If what you are doing isn’t working, then change it!”?

See there is even a graphic for the meme. by Phillip C McGraw : AKA Dr. Phil

With the proliferation of so many online career help seminars, groups, teachers and life coaches, I wonder more so, is a massive shift required to truly change?? Of course, yes it is part of many programs already, programs that assist with self destructive behavior, but what if your devoir is just you and it’s not detrimental? What if? How you do things mostly works, but you want better or different results. What if you just want to think very different, experience and process life very different?? Because that is really what it comes down to, when we talk about ‘change’. To think different and see different.?

Consider when you see a color and I see that same color, there is almost no way to determine that we each see the same exact color in the same way.? It’s intangible, I mean we deduce and accept that Forest Green is seen by everyone the same, but we just don’t know, unless we do a lot of lab testing to be sure. ?

Where am I going with this?? I guess ultimately, it comes down to words and expression and the interpretation there of. The written word, the spoken word, the sounds we make, the tone words are delivered and the tone they are received.? All essentially subjective and yet full of preconceived and previously experienced digestion.? Speech patterns, accents and regional dialect can be welcomed notes or triggers.? Buzz words and slangs can have the same effect as tastes and fragrance, morning or night, weed or wine. ?

If we consider all this, the turn off’s and turn on’s, how in the name of a vente’ caramel macchiato could we possibly forge new habits, speech patterns or routines.? Never mind communication.? Yet as entrepreneurs and creatives that is what we are tasked with on a regular basis. For every technique we try, there is a certain amount of failure, we are ultimately seeking the right combination(s) to open a new door or doors that we seem to face every day, month and year.?

So as I consider the idea of change, even in my morning routine, it feels a bit daunting and uninspired. Yet I know it could open possibilities I have yet to uncover for the ultimate goal and specifically targeted toward thought patterns.?

Hi Jimmy, I'm not saying change is good or bad, just different, and sometimes different is all we need to improve our situations. Learned behaviors such as changing posture, word choices, and diction are possible but a leopard can't change its spots. I'm a burn-the-midnight-oil person who took a job with a 4:30 a.m. wake-up call. Did I manage the job to the company's satisfaction? Yes. Was I happy getting up that early? No, not at all. Even after three years of staying with the early morning job, I never enjoyed the work. I was trying to change my spots as a burn-the-midnight-oil person to an early-morning person stripes. In order to change, the prospect must be worth the effort or it will fail. I'll stick with late nights, good posture, and enjoying language.
