Can we agree, Facebook needs a better reason?

Facebook's response in the Wall Street Journal is one that most have heard. True or not, it's simply not an excuse.
“Appropriate representation in technology or any other industry will depend upon more people having the opportunity to gain necessary skills through the public education system,” Facebook’s head of diversity Maxine Williams said in a statement.
If "diversity pipeline" were replaced for any other item in your organization, say, distribution, pricing, or marketing, would the response be the same? "We would really like to improve our distribution to increase revenue but, we just can't find a way to do it" Do you think senior leaders would accept that response? Why is a diversity pipeline different?
