Can Traffic Tickets Affect Your Trucking Career?

As a truck driver, you know that your career is an important part of your life. It's how you make a living, support your family, and achieve your goals. But did you know that something as seemingly minor as a traffic ticket can have a big impact on your career?

In the short-term, tickets can result in fines and points on your license, which can lead to increased insurance premiums and difficulty finding employment. No one wants to pay more for insurance, and many trucking companies have strict policies regarding the hiring of drivers with a history of tickets. If you've received multiple citations, it may be harder for you to find a job in the trucking industry.

But the impact of tickets doesn't stop there. In the long-term, a driver with a history of tickets may struggle to maintain their commercial driver's license (CDL) and may face difficulty advancing in their career. Depending on the state you live in and the severity of your offenses, you may be required to attend traffic school or may be disqualified from holding a CDL. This can make it difficult for you to continue working in the trucking industry and may require you to start your career over in a different field.

All of this can be avoided, however, by simply practicing safe driving habits and avoiding tickets. By following the rules of the road and being a responsible driver, you can protect your livelihood and ensure a long and successful career in the trucking industry. It may seem like a small thing, but taking care of your driving record can make a big difference in your career as a truck driver.

Drivers fail to remember that the Class A designation sets you apart from an ordinary driver. You’re a professional driver at work, and off of work.

Back in the day, we avoided this by having multiple licenses in multiple states. THEN, the damn computer and internet ruined all of that.

Not only in a commercial vehicle but personal as well, they always must be aware when operating any vehicle. Those 15 over are particularly damaging.
