Can a tool like ChatGPT change your life?

I recently entered the following prompt into ChatGPT (Chat Generative Predictive Pre-Trained Transformer) to see what the AI Tool could tell me: “Can ChatPGT change my life?” As this was more of a hypothetical question, I was actually quite surprised at how human and personal the response was:

“As an AI language model, I cannot directly change your life, but I can provide information, insights, and guidance that may be helpful to you. I can answer your questions, offer suggestions and recommendations, and share knowledge on a wide range of topics that may be relevant to your life. Ultimately, the decision to apply this information and make changes in your life is up to you. However, I am here to support you in any way that I can. So, feel free to ask me any questions or seek my advice, and I'll do my best to help you.”

This response actually reminded me of something a therapist would offer up. Currently, the question at the forefront of many people's minds is: “when exactly will AI replace humans?” Answer: it depends. There is an ongoing debate among experts about the potential impact of AI on human jobs and society as a whole. “While AI has the potential to automate many tasks and improve efficiency and productivity, it is unlikely that AI will completely replace humans in the near future” (author - ChatGPT). Okay so in the near future we are safe. Indeed, this debate will continue far into the future.?

For those who have been using this revolutionizing tool developed by the 2015 Elon Musk co-founded AI Research Laboratory, Open AI, you may have already noticed ChatGPT reads and sounds very human. With that said, the current ChatGPT 3.5 does have it’s limitations. For example, the current version can only provide responses using data from the internet up until September 2021. For 2022-23 data, you’ll need to Google it. Another example of ChatGPT’s limitations is when asked about how it ”feels” about a topic. The typical response will start with: “As an AI language model, I cannot do xyz…” However, most of the time it will follow with: “But, I can do xyz…” This is both frightening and exciting at the same time.?

Personally

I’ve been utilizing AI tools for my daily tasks for a very long time now, and it's likely most of you have too. In fact, the earliest substantial work in the field of artificial intelligence is dated back to 1936 by the British logician and computer pioneer, Alan Turing during WWII. Remember IBM Watson? From my iRobot Roomba Vacuum to smart device apps including iPhone’s “Siri” and Amazon’s “Alexa”, I’ve been unknowingly incorporating AI into my everyday life. Now with the recent launch of ChatGPT, the “User-Friendly ChatBot” interface has expanded exponentially at a mind-blowing pace.

As a language learning model, ChatGPT has cured my writer’s block. I’ve come up with many creative ideas, but putting the pen to paper and actually transcribing the thoughts in my brain has many times been a challenge. Not anymore. Ask ChatGPT a simple task like,”Write a poem about sunshine” or “Write a joke about a current celebrity.” I recently asked ChatGPT to “Write a thank you note to my friend Jan, regarding the beautiful bracelet they gave me for my birthday.” Boom - writer’s block cured! Then I asked it to translate the above message into Spanish. And on and on I go, refining my prompts and thereby giving ChatGPT more clues to ultimately come up with the perfect letter. As an intuitive search engine, ChatGPT can help with your vacation plans, providing you with a list of top places to visit in the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. Looking for a new place to dine including addresses and phone numbers when you’re in Paris? ChatGPT can help with that too.?

With the next gen of AI for example, ChatGPT 4 & 5, Microsoft’s Co-Pilot, and Google Bard, developers are creating thousands of API’s that will allow them to integrate AI into their own products, tools and services. Having used Google's "Deep Dream Generator" for many years now, I am deeply fascinated by the possibilities of AI-generated artwork and visuals. The latest image recognition software, such as Google Lens and Amazon Rekognition, which can recognize and interpret objects, people, and places, has elevated this technology to new heights.

Being a self-proclaimed enthusiast of Alexa's voice recognition technology, and having a smart speaker installed in nearly every room of my home, I have grown dependent on the ability to obtain information simply by speaking into my Echo Device. This includes getting immediate answers to everyday questions, setting reminders and alarms, notifying me when my Amazon deliveries have arrived and even making recommendations for future purchases. However, it doesn’t have the ability to write a physical email, or create an article or list in a document…yet. In fact, unless you’ve been living under a rock in Oahu’s North Shore, there is a revolution going on in the world’s advancement in AI tools and it’s exponentially speeding up. ChatGPT is just one of an unlimited number of tools that will assist human’s with their everyday tasks moving forward.

Professionally?

As a Talent Acquisition Professional, I have discovered numerous prompts that can be entered into ChatGPT to make my work life a bit easier. That is, if I allow it. Obviously AI’s ability to assist with boring and repetitive tasks is just spectacular. Just check out some of the AI-driven Applicant Tracking Systems if you are curious. You may already be familiar with some of ChatGPT’s ability to assist the various tasks with the recruitment process. Here is a brief overview of four of these areas for Recruitment Professionals:

  1. Automated screening: ChatGPT can be used to automate the initial screening of job applicants by asking them questions and evaluating their responses. This can help to save time and resources by quickly identifying candidates who are not a good fit for the job.
  2. Candidate matching: ChatGPT can be used to analyze job descriptions and resumes to identify the best candidates for a particular job. By comparing the skills and experience of job applicants to the requirements of the job, ChatGPT can help to identify candidates who are the best match for the position.
  3. Language analysis: ChatGPT can be used to analyze job postings and applicant resumes to identify common language and keywords that are associated with successful hires. This can help recruiters to identify the most important qualities and skills to look for in job candidates.
  4. Candidate engagement: ChatGPT can be used to communicate with job candidates in a personalized and responsive manner, providing them with information about the job and the company, and answering their questions. This can help to improve the candidate experience and increase the likelihood of a successful hire.

Regardless of your industry or role, it’s worthwhile to check-out how ChatGPT can simplify your daily work tasks. ChatGPT and similar AI-Tools can be tremendously helpful for any industry professional, offering “human-like" insights and education, and ultimately achieving greater success in your career.
