The concept of work has been changing since the industrial revolution. It has never been static.

When John D. Rockefeller made kerosene cheap, he extended the work daylighting the way for long factory hours. The invention of electricity and its distribution by Westinghouse and Edison continued that trend.

Innovation has been changing the way we work for over a century.

Cloud computing and mobility, the first two pillars of digital transformation, have made it possible for work to change once again.?

Now, it’s not only when people work that is changing but also where people work.?

So, we are in the midst of yet another innovation-driven work culture transformation. But, it’s not the first.?

All industries will adapt to these market forces.

In a recent interview I did with Brandon Lee and Eric Holdo on the Social Your Sales podcast. I talked about how social media is the third pillar of digital transformation.

Social media is not a sideshow. It is the show. It is the most powerful technology for human-to-human interaction ever created.?

It is the new town square.?

When we begin to understand how social media enables human-to-human connection and relationship building, we begin to see that social media enables deeper relationships with customers, suppliers, recruits, employees, and everyone else involved in the value creation process for your products and services.?

Social media is a megatrend.? Every organization will adapt to using social media, or they will become obsolete.?

So, how will your organization adapt??

First, you must get your team digital skills training in strategic social media. What is strategic social media?

Strategic social media is virtual networking and relationship building for commercial purposes.?

Networking and relationship building has always been a part of commerce.?

Traditional networking and relationship building are often costly and time-consuming.?

Your sales team may have traveled to an annual industry conference spending three or fours days in some expensive locale to catch a moment with your prospects.?

Executives approved budgets justified the spending as necessary for the opportunity to connect and build relationships with new and prospective clients.

Today, none of those expenses is necessary to connect and build relationships with your clients or prospects. In fact, the process that I described was highly inefficient and barely effective.

Strategic social media is a proven method for building relationships that leads to commercial conversations.?

There’s no waiting for the convention.?

There’s no hoping for an opportunity to get 5 mins to speak with the prospect.?

Buying motions have changed so significantly recently Lenwood yet selling motions still lag in development. I do wonder how companies are prospecting and networking these days if they are not expert with Social....
