Can someone explain this quandary?

Can someone explain this quandary?  The yellow map on the left (Google map) correctly identifies the Aptakisic Creek.  The map on the right (Vernon Township map) inaccurately identifies the same body of water as the Buffalo Creek and does not identify the Aptakisic Creek anywhere.  In actuality, the Buffalo Creek is in a different location far across town.  Can anyone tell me how and/or why this exists?  I'm interested because the Aptakisic Creek is the receiving stream for the discharge effluent from the largest domestic & industrial Wastewater facility in Lake County (NPDES ?#?IL0022055? & IL022055) taking in approximately 60% of the entire county's waste.  They're using the address of 800 Krause Drive, Buffalo Grove IL 60089, for mail delivery reasons I've been told, as the actual address is in unincorporated Deerfield, 60015.  The Pekara Subdivision Groundwater wells (#0975900) supply thousands of people their water and are only 200 ft. setback from the wastewater facility. The Pekara Subdivision groundwater wells also use the 800 Krause Drive address but nobody has explained that.  Thank you, Lisa

Not really that uncommon Lisa. I don't have a direct answer for you, but you might track down the correct name through the USGS. A few years ago their Reston, VA office published a report on place names. You might start with the USGS Water Sciences Center in your state.
