Do you remember the old Memorex commercial? Well today, we are faced with yet another "Is It Real or Not?" question. Seems like history is forever repeating itself.
Undeniably, AI is real. It's here! Well, at least the software is, and it remains speculative how society will reap the benefits and rewards.. This week, experiencing varied and advanced AI platforms?took me back to another era of change.
I was reminded of an old television commercial.
Memorex was founded in 1961. The company started out by selling magnetic tape technology, and reportedly, that same technology was incorporated into the credit cards you probably hold in your wallet or purse. Of course, chip technology is replacing the magnetic strip too. The commercial? Perhaps you remember it.
"Is it real? Or is it Memorex? "
A famous singer would sing a high note, recorded on Memorex cassette tape and played back. As an accompanying visual, a piece of crystal would break when done live. And then?another crystal glass would break when played back on tape. The hook? This was supposed to accentuate and highlight the reproductive quality of the recording. There was no difference at least audibly. ( I'm not sure about the breaking crystal glass thing. Never was.)
Perhaps AI will also be that good someday. It's becoming more and more difficult to tell the difference. Just like Memorex, it's becoming more and more difficult to determine what is real from the AI imposter.
It can often feel overwhelming in today's world to separate reality from make-believe. And it may not even be make-believe. Or is it? Many of us find ourselves questioning the authenticity of people and the situations around us.
It's completely understandable to wonder who is genuine and who might be putting on a facade. You're not alone in feeling this way.
I find It requires courage to be real, authentic and genuine today. Why? Two reasons.
Most often, as human beings, we are judgemental. Along with our diminishing ability to focus for any length of time, we are just as quick to form an opinion. Current research suggests we assign value within milliseconds. We shudder at the thought that someone may form a negative opinion about me or my actions. But often it cannot be helped. First impressions last. Right?
"Opinions are the cheapest commodities on earth. Everyone has a flock of opinions ready to be wished upon anyone willing to accept them," ~ Napoleon Hill.
Secondly, It's easier to assume a role or be an imposter than to change behavior or engage in any development to become something or someone different.
"One can never outperform their own self-image" ~ Dr. Maxwell Maltz - Author of Psycho-cybernetics.
Our self-belief is deeply held sometimes as is our self worth and our self value. Is it real? Or is it memorex?
Look beyond the obvious to the actual. How can one measure honorable intent? Hmmm?
Obviously, you don't think you are right about absolutely everything.... do you? Yeah, Me either.
The Information is out there... all you gotta do is let it in.
