Can an IT Project Manager Effectively Handle an ERP Project, or is an ERP Project Manager Essential?

My intention is not to conclude this post with a confused Yes and No answer, I have answered this question for the best of my ability with the experience I have gained over the years.

ERP projects are complex and require deep understanding of business processes such as Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Finance, also familiarity with ERP modules and knowledge on how they integrate process wise as well as technologically with each module is vital.

ERP projects often change business processes within an organization, this demands a unique change management approach, while ensuring the business outcomes are met.

While IT Project Managers have core competencies in managing technologically complex projects, ERP Project Managers excel in handling projects that involve highly complex business processes.

YES!, having a dedicated ERP Project Manager is essential for successful implementation.
