Can one job change your career?

Sometimes one role will change your entire life, by putting you on a different career path, or giving you the leg-up you've been waiting for.

These special roles tend to be in high-growth teams, where you’re quickly foisted with new responsibilities, or asked to step into a manager’s shoes.

It can feel like these roles only come up once in a lifetime but, in the startup industry, it’s just a regular occurrence.

Startups are small companies that grow fast, often powered by innovation. People who work for startups need to be ready for a busy and uncertain time, but they should also prepare for the ride of their lives.

To celebrate the LinkedIn Top Startups lists for Australia and New Zealand, we asked founders and CEOs to share their advice with job seekers.

For NZ startup Sharesies Director Brooke Roberts, passion is more important than experience.

“I don't really care what's in the CV. I want to see that hunger to really drive change. Ultimately that connection to why we exist and why we do what we do will enable somebody to really enjoy their work.”?

Linktree co-founder and CEO Alex Zaccaria says it won't be easy, but it will be memorable.

“This will likely be the most exhilarating and rewarding experience of your career, but it will also be the most challenging and hard to navigate time in your career.”
