Can An Old or Limiting Belief, Be Erased?

Limiting Beliefs. You likely know them as those 'voices' in your head, typically negative, that show up instantly when you get a idea to do something new and wild. By wild I mean unimaginable, never done by you before, exciting and scary too. Those beliefs, born decades ago, and well practiced in stopping us from playing too big, are the first in line, before you even take a step, to tell you why you shouldn't do it or can't do the thing! First in line into your conscious Thinking. There is a way to stop them in their tracks ... another topic altogether. It requires taking two steps toward that goal, the very second you get the idea. The steps are conscious and 'outweigh' the automatic beliefs that always seem to show up to keep us playing small.
About erasing them. I've pondered this question for a very long time. I've heard this said lots of ways ... clearing them, eliminating them, disappearing them, ignoring them ... the truth is, we cannot make them 'disappear' for many reasons. Once they have taken residence (for decades and more) if we disappeared them, it would leave a hole in our mind ... a vacuum. And that doesn't work well in nature.
What we can do, that I have derived after more than a dozen years in deep study of the mind, the subconscious, beliefs, results ... and more, is to create New beliefs. New beliefs then become our go-to automatic thinking. They 'outweigh' if you will, the old ones. Yet because the old ones are tried and true and were developed so long ago, they have first 'dibs' on what you think, when you get a new, wild idea.
New beliefs are developed, like muscles, and they take time to grow. Every goal you set and achieve creates a new belief; a new automatic way of thinking. The trick is, like any thing worth doing, it is a process and takes time. It took decades to carve in the old beliefs and they got to practice jumping into your thoughts when you are dreaming about bigger things for you in life. It takes patience and a willingness to put in a few months to develop a new belief and is best and fastest done one at a time.
In 2008 in a conversation with Bob Proctor, along with other of his students, I heard him say the words "eliminate" limiting beliefs. But I knew from his teachings that 'changing' a negative belief into a positive one, or disappearing energy or matter, was not quite accurate nor possible scientifically. He paused, looked at me and then said thoughtfully that I was quite right. The distinction is fine and my instincts were right.
So to answer the question Can An Old 'Belief' Be Erased? I will say it cannot be erased, eliminated, disappeared or melted away! Those beliefs are there forever. In fact, once you learn to create new beliefs at will, with consistency and predictability, you will hear them sometimes .. a now quiet whisper, saying "you can't do that, remember?" You thank that voice and revel in the new beliefs you have created, that now are your new and positive automatic thoughts, saying take two steps right away!

3 年Yes it can. We are the movies we play in our heads. New movies can be created. I can facilitate people to do this, however the right attitude is everything. Our brain always has a positive intention for us. We need to find what that intention was of the old behaviour which gave you a negative belief or behaviour in the first place. At first it was there for a positive reason. We can only manage what we can acknowledge. I use Hypnosis, NLP and the BLAST Technique to help people break through those old habit pattern beliefs.
