Intuitive eating is an evidence-based non-diet approach to healthy eating and lifestyle.
It has won the praise of many health organizations like the British Heart Foundation, as a loving way to relate to food that bases its principles in mindfulness and self-love.
It is based on a method developed by two American nutritionists that brings together nutritional principles and eating psychology and it is based on 10 core principles.
Reconnect with your hunger and fullness cues
Its main predicament is to recognize and reconnect with your body's hunger and fullness cues, which is a beautiful concept given that in modern society we eat too much, mostly in an emotional and hedonistic way.
The body is self-regulating, so if we "listen to it" we can understand when it is time to eat, and when it is time to stop and avoid overeating.
Food freedom and metabolic health
The principle that creates more confusion is: "Allow Yourself To eat".
While this principle was created to fight emotional eating and unhealthy restrictive behavior around food, this is also the intuitive eating principle that generates more doubts and confusion.
"How can I be healthy if I allow myself to eat whatever I want?"
This is, obviously, a very good point.
In reality, if you follow an Intuitive Eating approach, you are also taught to "Nourish" your body, so to see food as fundamental self-care that gives energy and makes you feel good, not fill yourself with junk food.
Is this enough to create balanced and nutritional sound eating habits?

My Intuitive Eating Method.
I have personally followed an Intuitive Eating approach for a long time and my personal experience has influenced my nutrition coaching and my method.
I strongly believe that you need to have the right foundation, when it comes to nutrition, so you can make healthier and loving choices.
You can always choose to eat that slice of chocolate cake, but it is also important o know how to combine a meal that will give nourishment and sustain your energy.
In my step-by-step approach, you will learn the foundation of healthy eating habits to support your metabolic health.
Then we will move on to understand and deconstruct your cravings, so food urges won't control you, but you will be in charge of your choices.
The third step is the "consolidation phase". Where we create habits and fine-tune your intuitive eating skills.
Someone said " Your relationship with food is like any other relationship. It is a work in progress". So yes, the non-diet approach requires time and work, but I do believe it is worth it.
