AI generative tools like Chat GPT are increasing in popularity as more people learn about them and hear the promises of a lighter workload. But here's the thing… these tools have major limitations. I get asked about them so much that I thought a newsletter article was in order
So can you use Chat GPT to write your website content? Let me ask it to you this way, would you let a child use it to write an essay for homework? Of course not! Why? It's basically plagiarism. AI “learns” from other sources and regurgitates that content. You're using someone else's content just spliced with another person's content to seem original.
If you don't believe me, go ask chat GPT to write an 800 word blog about a topic you have in mind. Then use an incognito browser and ask it the same question without logging in. Did you get almost the same blog word-for-word? You sure did! Which means not only would using that be plagiarizing, you're likely going to find others in the Internet using the exact same copy. Duplication is a big no-no in SEO.
But here's the good news, there are lots of other ways to use AI generative text tools to improve your SEO. Ask Chat GPT for keyword ideas, or use it to find out what are some common questions in your industry from consumers so that you can make an FAQ page to address them. Keep in mind these tools are not 100% accurate, but they can give you a great starting
point.
