How many people actually set out a goal or whatevermajig when the new year starts? I am not one of them. It just never seemed to be my thing.
I do recognize that many are into improving their networking game well into 2K24. So, being the Santa to your business, I have a gift for you. We shall call it Zack Miller’s Guide to Networking Events.
- Find a location -- Google something like “Networking Event in (insert your city)”
- Determine if the attendance is an audience that you want to meet (quality + quantity). Do this by searching for information on this shindig
- Contact Host -- Send a message to the host and introduce yourself to them -- this opens a conversation and a lot of doors
- Set a goal for the event -- Ex: Meet 3 new people in 60 minutes
- Don’t sell. Instead, create meaningful relationships and establish a strong first impression
- The first question you ask is critical, do not say “Oh… hey, ughhh so whadddaya do for a living?” instead ask “What are you Watching on Netflix?”
- Don’t pass out your business card immediately, be patient
- Send the folks you meet a message after letting them know you enjoyed meeting them
Got a tip for events? I wanna hear about it.
