Can I send my product back in time
Daniel Graversen
I help simplifying your SAP Integration process from DevOps to PI to Integration Suite migrations
We have created a tool that allows you to save probably 20% of SAP PI and CPI development costs/time. In the post, we will assume that the estimate of 20%.
When I was working on SAP Integration projects back in 2005 there was a lot of frustration. I needed to do a lot of steps manually. I wished that we had a tool that we first have created now. It would have a big impact on my product then.
I was considering it would be soo cool if we could send it back in time and then be able to sell it 5 years ago. It would be soo cool if it was possible to sell the product back then. Sure we probably need to wait for some dependencies to be solved and update the market demands. Sure if we could have made it back in 2005 then it would have been really helpful. Then we would not have all the components that we rely on. That is why I only think 5 years is possible. Also, the DevOps concent that we align with is not that old.
Then it struck me why is SAP XI/PI/PO successful. It probably has something to do with the fact that there are a lot of developers that know the tool. SAP PI/PO has about 11.000 installations so and I think it was the second most used integration broker. So it has been and is still really a popular tool.
What would the impact be if we delivered this back in in 2014.
It would have some effect to go back and change time.
If it was 20% cheaper to develop and interface either two things can happen.
- Customers will leverage that it is cheaper and they will get more done.
- Customers only have a finite set of work and get it all done. There will then be 20% fewer people in the field.
With the current short comming of skills and backlog of new projects, it probably is something in the middle. And ROI on a project that is 20% cheaper will be 20% faster(or pretty close).
If the ROI of an Integration is 20% faster then SAP PI/PO probably has a greater advantage over competing platforms. Then there will anyway be a greater impact in selecting SAP PI/PO so there will be more projects.
Impact on skills
Another factor is skill level. There is obvious difference in entry-level developers and then architects. To become an architect you need to have some kind of experience that you can only get from working on a real project. I think with this approach you will not get to spend time on the boring 20% that is not giving real value and not adding much to the person's skill level. So you will probably be able to become an architect a lot faster.
Conclusion
It would probably not have the skills or demand shortage of Integration developers if a custom tool would be able to save 20% of the cost. It will probably just mean companies' digitalization projects will go faster.
Want to save 20% on your SAP PI/PO/CPI projects?
You probably are also considering how is it possible to save 20% on integration projects. Then the Figaf IRT tool may be something for you.
Figaf IRT is a tool that started out doing testing of SAP PI/PO. When we did the research on testing then it accounted for 30% of the cust of a development project. And it is probably the same for Integration development.
We had soo much knowledge of the integration system that we decided to build a full automatic change management system for SAP PI/PO. This enables you to note what kind of objects you have changed for a project, test that modification, configure it in the full environment, transport the changes in the environment, and then create documentation of the change. It depends on the project you are doing but there is also probably 20% saved with this approach.
We cannot go back in time and serve the product there but we can help you now make the most use of your SAP Integration since we both support SAP PI and CPI (and API mgt). Hopefully, we can make SAP CPI even more popular by saving time for the processes for it.

5 年Daniel, Here is my 2 cents ,Did you ever think about what if SAP builds this tool and sells it to its customers? Would customers buy your product instead of SAP'S product. Look at Mobile ecosystem SAP killed its partners with its own Mobile solution.Sorry did i give SAP an idea here. Ok thats fine they wont do it .
