Can I install this flooring in a herringbone pattern?
I get this question all the time and for good reason - herringbone installations are beautiful!
The answer is “it depends!”
Tile can be laid in a herringbone pattern as long as it’s a rectangular or plank shape.
LVT can be laid in a herringbone pattern as long as it’s a glue down or loose lay product. LVT that has a click and lock mechanism on the sides will not work in a herringbone pattern because it can’t click together properly.
You can lay tongue and groove hardwood in a herringbone pattern; however, it is MUCH more labor intensive than a standard straight lay installation and generally creates a lot more waste. This rules out most collections that aren’t pre-made in a herringbone pattern unless it's a very small accent area - usually in a residential application. Fortunately, some collections are designed this way. These make for a much simpler and straightforward installation for both small and large projects.
Hopefully this helps! Feel free to reach out if you have questions.
