Can I ask you for ￡1?

?In 2012, age 40, my beautiful wife was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer. 5 years later she is holding a fund-raising coffee morning this Sunday 26th March for Target Ovarian Cancer as it's Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. As a doctor, I have been humbled by the quality of treatment and doctoring that she has continued to receive.

I don’t think I have ever taken to social media to ask for donations, probably because I don’t run, cycle, parachute or sky dive. I am so proud of Natalie and the other heroes, of which I know there are many, who embark on this journey.

What I do know is that there can never be enough money for the education, support, treatment and research into this and other devastating cancers.

I have pondered about how social media brings us close to the concept of the six degrees of separation, the theory that everyone on the planet is only six steps away from each other and have thought that if everyone just donated ￡1 to a cause and asked their network to do the same, how much good could come from a single request like this.

So here goes! Natalie is having a coffee morning in North Leeds on Sunday both to celebrate still being a well mum to two amazing children and to raise money in this, Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. If anyone reading this could find it in their heart and their wallet to even donate a single pound to this amazing charity and equally to ask all their contacts to consider doing the same, then I would be deeply humbled. If anyone is in the area then message me and come along (not 7 billion people though, it would scare the dog!).

It’s been a week of sadness following the atrocities in London, but the pain of death, disease and other adversity brings out the very best in the human race. So, I am sorry for not doing a bungee jump, but if this moves you in any way I, Natalie and the charity would be grateful for just a single pound.
