Can the Government and Industry Work Together to Defend Against Cyber Attacks?

The other day, I was asked what I thought about CISA’s new Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative, or JCDC.? For those of you that have not heard of the JCDC yet, it’s an attempt to bring together an international set of cyber defenders to share risk information and plan coordinated responses.? JCDC priorities for 2024 include:

?

1.???? Defending against Advances Persistent Threat (APT) operations.

2.???? Raising the cybersecurity baseline.

3.???? Anticipating emerging technology and risks.

?

In the two short years since it was founded, the JCDC has successfully found ways to integrate defense strategies between the government and industry, which I believe to be an excellent solution to attacks on U.S. infrastructure by bad actors (both foreign and domestic).?

?

With world tensions on the rise in the middle east, the Ukraine and the China sea, the threat of cyber-attacks by bad actors and nation states on U.S. infrastructure and the 2024 election seem certain.? The new tools being released by CISA to counter these attacks, and the associated tabletop exercises being run by CISA with representatives from multiple state and federal agencies, as well as industry experts, are an excellent one-two punch.? In my opinion, having a unified strategy for our defense that has been designed, tested, and proven by multiple cyber experts, bodes well for defending against, and ultimately preventing these attacks altogether.

I hope this helps.? If you or your company or agency need assistance improving your cyber security position, please get in touch with me, as Tek Works would be happy to help.
