Can food protect our immune system?

The relationship between food, immunity, and out gut bugs (aka the gut microbiota) is fascinating, not least because there's a myriad of dietary components that can affect these interactions. As an increasing body of evidence shows, the balance between healthful and unhealthful bacteria in our gut influences a much wider range of health factors than scientists previously believed. These include aspects as diverse as blood pressure, the ageing process, the likelihood of developing anxiety or depression, and potentially the ability to optimise how our immune system works, particularly as we continue to witness how the international COVID-19 / coronavirus pandemic causes significant disruption to our daily life.
I find this communication between food and our immune system completely fascinating, so I jumped at the opportunity to have a chat about food for healthy immunity with an scientist that I've admired for a long time, Dr Jenna Macciochi Ph.D, an Immunologist who studied at the Faculty of Inflammation, Repair & Development, Imperial College London, specialising in allergy, chronic inflammation and resolution.
I'm a big fan of Dr Macciochi's common sense approach to immune health, which she has captured beautifully in her book "Immunity: The Science of Staying Well", so I will be discussing evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle strategies with her, trying to figure out what foods can help our immune system (and the rest of your body!) stay healthy and happy during these stressful times. And of course we'll be talking about the role of the microbiome in all of this too. Looking forward to seeing you there!

So when and where?
Please join me next Thursday 2nd April at 2pm UK time (14:00 GMT) for this live webinar session. There will be an opportunity for you to ask questions during the session, which is kindly sponsored by Atlas Biomed as part of the Atlas Biomed Education Programme that I am responsible for.
Is it open for everyone?
Registration is free of charge and the session is open to everyone, clinicians, scientists and laypeople. You just need to have an interest in gut health, food, and healthy immunity.
Looking forward to seeing you there.
