Can DTx technology mend the healthcare talent gap?

Can DTx technology mend the healthcare talent gap?

In a decade, we’ll be 45,000 primary care physicians short. Our doctors are getting old, too. And so do the entire nations. The snowball is snowballing at high speed. And, who knows, maybe a mobile phone or a wearable will be able to change gear and slow down the looming healthcare specialist gap.

DTx comes to the rescue?

Due to increased digitalization, the healthcare industry has seen significant changes in recent decades. The development of smart medical devices, electronic health records, telemedicine consulting services, and more have allowed for better health monitoring and treatment on either inpatient or outpatient basis.

Digital therapeutics (DTx), a digital health and SaMD subindustry, is one of the digital remedies that aim to improve the situation. The DTx market is predicted to be worth $9 billion by 2025. The rapidly growing DTx niche in digital healthcare sends good signals for humanity: more people will be capable of receiving high-quality healthcare and outside clinics. DTx is playing a great part in improving mental health management. According to IBM research, the major pros are:

??63 % individualized therapy and?

??61% greater patient engagement

??56% improved outcomes

??43% reduced cost of care

??30% new medical insights

??26% better reach of care

In 2023, we will observe all signs of the digital therapeutics (DTx) market explosion: the emergence of unicorns and DTx companies. We’ve made a review of the ??16 top DTx companies around the globe, including Omada, Virta Health, Akili Interactive Labs, Pear Therapeutics, One Drop, and a dozen other breakthrough inventions.

One of the great challenges of DTx is that it’s heavily regulated. It’s true that digital therapeutics regulations are constantly evolving and it’s not the easiest sphere to navigate without prior experience.

We created a guidebook for digital healthcare actors that want to enter the DTx field as well as companies with DTx products that want to get a reimbursement and want to learn about the path to meeting FDA, MDR, and DiGA regulations ??Digital Therapeutics Regulations Whitepaper.

And so do SaMD solutions (for wearables in particular)

And while some patients are prescribed DTx solutions to treat/manage illnesses, they represent a small fraction of the Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) group. These solutions (group I and II), unlike DTx apps, help run medical devices, accelerate medical research, and help doctors and healthcare professionals. You, however, may be using one of the most popular types of SaMD—a health performance tracker like a smartwatch.?

Unlike DTx apps, not all SaMD solutions need a doctor’s prescription and have a positive impact on health. Read more about ?? Medical Device Software (SaMD) in 2023.

Inspiring DTx apps we’ve built

Binariks is a trusted technology partner with rich expertise and experience in creating HIPAA-compliant and interoperable DTx and SaMD solutions. Here are two recent DTx solutions we've recently finished.

??From DTx application to an in-app experience development

DTx and SaMD solutions come in all imaginable shapes and sizes. Many companies with DTx products monetize their solutions through white-labeling. That’s exactly what we were helping our client to reach. We’ve transformed their app into an in-app experience making it available to corporate clients.

??Covid-19 self-testing app for corporate clients

Binariks team was engaged in the development of an FDA-authorized self-testing application that enables real-time outbreak monitoring. Our engineers joined the client’s team to accelerate the transition from monolithic to micro-service-based architecture. Read more here.
