Can Condensate Tank Manway be isolated? Yes Carber Can!
One of our mid-stream industry client threw us a challenge. Can we isolate manway neck from the existing tank to replace with a pup piece, new flange and cover. Challenges were:
- Tank was built back in late 70’s, detail drawings for the fitting not available.
- Limited neck projection to seal off the tank from the proposed new weld location.
- Neck was only 6” from the repad on shell wall to the existing flange on the manway, do we have skinny tool to accommodate 4”-5” to enable removal of existing flange and butt weld on a new flange and cover.
- Will the heat during welding (being so close to tool) travel and impact the isolation?
- While we are at site can we do the cold cuts to reduce cost of mobbing another crew?
- Do we have the resources ready to reach remote site in a week?
Carber answered "Yes" all the above questions. Our engineering team quickly created a special tool design and suggested hydro dynamic test to mitigate any risk of heat travel. Our factory manufactured the skinny isolation tool in two days. Our Edmonton operations had experienced crew at site and completed the job on time and under budget.
End result - a satisfied client
"I just wanted to also send our thanks to the team at Carber who have been great to work with and a huge part in making the job a great success. Thanks all for your support and assistance in executing the project safely and efficiently! Have a great weekend! "
