Can the AppleWatch? Detect a Heart Attack?
Last week, CNET published an article about Apple Watch’s mHealth capabilities and limitations. In case you have missed it, here is the link to an excellent article:
https://www.cnet.com/news/apple-watch-ecg-app-what-cardiologists-want-you-to-know/
"The Apple Watch can only detect irregular heart rhythms, which are a risk factor for stroke. As Apple's website states: The ECG app can't detect a heart attack, blood clots, stroke or other heart-related conditions, including high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, high cholesterol or other forms of arrhythmia." Still, as pointed out in the CNET article, the Apple Watch has made a significant first step and validated the need for a mobile health cardiovascular technology. Relatively speaking, it is a small step as it provides screening only for a non- urgent condition that affects about 3 million people in the US. The totality of the cardiovascular market in the US is much bigger; indeed there are at least 80 million individuals with a heart condition. HeartBeam is tackling the whole cardiovascular mHealth market and upon FDA approval, our iCardiologist will diagnose the heart attack.
