Can Apple make 'Made in America' work? Major drug company ex-execs arrested in alleged kickback scheme, and more news

Apple has reportedly asked two iPhone assemblers in China if it would be feasible to move the work to the US. Both suppliers said the cost impact would be prohibitive, as one would imagine. But Apple's rationale could involve president-elect Trump's threat to impose punitive tariffs on China, and China's message it would single out Apple for retaliation. Anyway, as Forbes points out, Apple could exit China and still not build iPhones in the US.

Two former top execs of drugmaker Valeant and mail-order pharmacy Philidor were arrested in what "prosecutors described as a multi-million-dollar fraud and kickback scheme aimed at personally enriching both executives," the New York Times reported. The alleged plot began to unravel last fall, when a secret connection between the companies was revealed.

Donald Trump will discuss Secretary of State with Mitt Romney, one of the president- elect's harshest detractors, NBC reports. The 2012 GOP presidential nominee (whom Trump endorsed) called Trump a "phony" "fraud" "con man" and a "fake" in a May speech. But Romney's congratulated Trump and, if offered the post, it's hard to imagine he could possibly decline. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

McDonald's expects to pilot mobile ordering next year. It's part of an effort to project itself as a "modern, progressive burger company," execs told a meeting with reporters. Don't laugh: Competitors who are already succeeding at this include Chick-fil-A, Starbucks, Domino's, Dunkin Donuts, Chipotle and Taco Bell.

For the Record: Tesla and SolarCity shareholders approved the merger. Elon Musk, who owns about 22% of each company, recused himself, and some analysts still consider the deal something of a bailout for SolarCity. But Tesla has asserted that it expects SolarCity to net more than $500 million over the next three years.

I am all about capitalism and free markets but it is time that corporations learned what it is to be good citizens of their community. We expect people to do "the right thing" so why should we expect any less from our corporate citizens? A rising tide lifts all boats!

Yes, Apple products can be made in the USA. It just means less profit for them because they will have to pay the workforce more but, who cares. Boo-freakin-hoo. Why do we care if a companies profits decline? Why do we care if a company can't pay it's top execs millions of dollars each year? Corporations are NOT people. Stop treating them as such. So sick of billion dollar companies crying that they might lose some profits by making things in America while I am over here barely able to pay my basic bills that allow me to survive. Corporate america is jaded...how much money is enough? I mean, seriously...Apple could lose millions and still be just fine. So sick if this argument.
