Can AI push program managers out of the game?

1 in 5 project managers are overly stressed and are thinking of quitting their jobs.

And why won’t they be? PgMs are required to take care of multiple things without ever dropping the ball.

I’ve seen organizations that pressure PgMs to “prove” their skills by picking up the most slack. Basically making them compete against AI.

But it’s counterproductive.

AI is not the enemy; it’s a tool. One that can reduce the feeling of overwhelm and improve success rates. Here are some ways it can help:

If you can’t decide, get AI to pitch in.

Even if you have a decade of experience, AI's data-driven analytics are more reliable (and faster) than your guess.

And believe me, most of the time, you and AI will be on the same team, keeping up with the fast pace and agile approach.

If you’re low on time and energy, set the routine tasks on autopilot.

Don’t waste your efforts on being faster than the computer for boring and repetitive tasks. Use your brain power on something better.

Set up the administrative processes and free up your schedule.

Spend intentional time on improving your strategic thinking and decision-making skills. (that’s the only way you’ll win against AI, you know?)

For example,

You can use the natural language processing (NLP) algorithms to enable virtual assistants for scheduling meetings, reminders, and facilitating real-time communication.

Improved coordination and increased productivity are a win-win for all teams and stakeholders.

If you’re confused about the potential risks, AI predictions can take the bet for you.

Assessing the risks is hands-down the scariest part of program management. If you didn’t see a predictable risk coming up, the project failure falls entirely on the PgM.

That’s why AI’s predictive project management capability is my favorite feature.

It can utilize historical data and trends, allowing program managers to anticipate potential risks and opportunities before they occur. It's super cool, isn’t it?

Here’s the thing: if you’re scared of AI, think of it like a new teacher with more experience.

Scary, yes, but once you break the ice, you have better insights, better guidance, and better results!

I can see it driving better efficiencies and insight with data but it won’t take over the massive piece that it stakeholder management and cross team communication and collaboration.

AI will really help with with Data analysis , Reporting, Communication and Risk management better but that does not mean PGM will be lazy.
