Can AI tools like ChatGPT replace you?

The answer is both yes and no... depending on how you adapt.

Can AI ever replace humans?

The answer is both yes and no.

Before I share my thoughts on this, let me share a few example:

(1) When you fly an airline, for most of the time your plane is on auto-pilot.

(2) When you dial a number, your calls are auto-routed to it's destination.

(3) When NASA has to launch a rocket, they do trillions of calculations in research phase.

But there was a time both tasks were completely manual... before computers became the norm.

The key is : "Scalable automation" and "Efficiency".

Tasks where machines were efficient than humans, was taken over.

Tasks where humans were more efficient than machines.. stayed with humans.

With computers - we had a scalable way of automating tasks - while (in many cases) bringing in more efficiency than what humans can do.

But do we see mass un-employment??

Again the answer is both yes and no.

An old aged milk vendor had a very good running family business for decades. But he refused to accept digital payments. During covid lockdown, he was forced to learn to make and accept payment.. else his business would have shut down.

He adapted and learnt new skills and survived.

Humans, who adapted and learnt new skills - survived and even thrived the computer age.

AI tools like ChatGPT is a start of something similar.

You can deny this threat with arguments like ..humans are complex being, a single tool like ChatGPT can't replace humans, even if it is nearly as efficient as human in a specific task... even if these tools can learn faster than humans.

True.. but everyday - new application specific AI tools are being built.. and they will be hosted on cloud (owing to their computing needs). Once we have enough AI tools, someone start building a system combining all these AI tools.

That's how a complex yet simple to use system like?UPI was built.. bunch of tools (or micro-services) talking to each other through APIs.

Sooner or later, AI will evolve from "Tools abstraction" to "System abstraction".

So will AI System replace human? Again the answer is yes and no.

The key is efficiency.. Whoever (Humans or AI) offers more efficiency will win.

So what can humans do to survive?

You really have only two options.. compete or collaborate.

You can compete with ChatGPT to write better , if you are winning today.. chances are?you might lose tomorrow.

Or you can take a smarter way to learn how to work with ChatGPT.

Learn to use the tool , and try to bring more efficiency than what this tool can offer.

And keep learning new tools as they come into being.. and try to stay one step ahead in efficiency curve.

That's the key to survive or even thrive, and it has always been so.
