Campus WiFi: Challenges, Solutions and Best Practices
The higher education sector in India has seen amazing growth over the past two decades. There is intense competition among public and private institutions to attract students. After academic excellence, availability of state-of-the-art IT infrastructure is the key decision factor among students and parents when it comes to choosing a place to study. In particular, the provision of campus-wide WiFi Access has become an important component of IT infrastructure in academic institutions.
Campus WiFi poses a unique set of challenges, in comparison with Enterprise/Public/Carrier WiFi. Campuses are typically spread over a large area, with a mix of indoor and outdoor facilities. The usage also tends to very heavy, with a very diverse mix of applications and there are interesting usage patterns with respect of time of the day. The client mix can be very diverse compared to say enterprise networks. In order to cater to this rather unique set of requirements and use cases, network administrators have to be very well-versed with the WiFi technology as well as end-to-end system.
For the first time in India, we are organizing a day-long session on Campus WiFi, as part of the 4th WiFi Knowledge Summit to be held in IIT-Bombay on Sept 14 and 15, 2017. It will focus on challenges, Solutions and Best Practices for Campus WiFi deployment.
Envisaged as a platform to bring WiFi industry professionals, R&D engineers, IT administrators, the WiFi Summit has evolved into a knowledge sharing platform.
