Campus Benches to Corporate Cubicles
2018 has been no less than a roller-coaster, lots of happenings; travel; networking learning and teaching. Yes, all this was a with loads of sacrifices. This year also marks for me 25 years of corporate stint or working experience. Yes, I consider this as a big achievement as when I started most of the times, I was the lone woman in managerial or leadership capacity and broke many stereotypes.
I also belong from one of the most interior parts of Odisha and studied from there wherein its not easy to have all types of comforts or exposures. Of course, I consider myself most fortunate to study my PG and also work from the completion year.
2018 is the landmark year for completion of 25 years and my vow for this year was to go back to benches and try to empathize with the talent which is under preparation.
MY BIG PROMISE WAS TO REACH OUT TO 25 MBA INSTITUTIONS ACROSS INDIA.
So, the journey began from January from preparations to until December there was no turn down to my vow. All weekends of mine were on travel to one of the other institutions across India. Whether I had official work, personal or ill I still never let down my spirits to bring me down.
I am happy to say yes, I did it, over achieved to more than 25.
My big 5 learnings are summarized here:
1. Irrespective of which tier the institution qualifies for the students have only one question with tiring face what skills are required for the job market?
2. With the disruptive technologies of IOT do humans have any kind of roles left to do? If yes, then what and why don’t we have them as a part of our syllabus?
3. How can we reach to employers and get them to hire us?
4. I am doing MBA without any experience will I be considered for any jobs?
5. We are put in pressure to do so much for only placements, if this is the agenda of institution then when will we learn?
Thus, I see a big epidemic creeping in that is ‘FEAR AMONGST STUDENTS OF JOBS’.
Are we corporate leaders responsible for this? If somewhere we are then why can’t, we reach out to do our part of the job.
· Setting clear objectives of roles, jobs where we need campus fresh grads.
· Mentoring graduates to acclimatize, assimilate them seamlessly into the corporates.
I know many leaders are doing this but believe me this isn’t enough, and more is there to do.
Well from my end I am thoroughly available to help the students and the talent which we need for the next gen work.
A big thank you for all the institutions who invited me for admission panel, guest-lectures, panel speaker, key note speaker, chief guest, moderator, mentor, business conclave, HR conclave, Assessments.
I hope I had done some kind of contribution in enhancing the confidence of the students for facing the job world.
I also promise to those institutions who have invited me but to some date clashes or other exigencies I could not make it but surely in 2019 we will meet.
Wishing all a great year ahead and loads of learnings and contribution.

5 年Very spot on points ma'am, I also feel that without the 'learning' capability that is given to an undergraduate during his college years, he will find it a hard time to make a smooth transition to the corporates. Mentoring and coaching at the right time is of immediate requirement to understand the interests of the student so that he can choose his career after his UG. Also kindly check out my latest article, I've written my viewpoints I'd love some feedback from a professional.
