Cambridge joins the treevolution with Greenpop!

On July 25th, the Cape Town office took to Trafalgar High School in the early morning to participate in our Nelson Mandela Day project - Fynbos for the Future. Colleagues who hadn’t seen each other in months were reunited, while others met in person for the first time.

Staff were greeted at the gate by cheerful Greenpop staff Megan, Carla and Deon, before being shown the garden that they were going to tend to for the morning. After a quick introduction, Grade 11 students were brought out and everyone participated in some ice breakers, with the last game splitting everyone into teams where some CUP staff got the chance to work together for the first time.

The teams took turns between doing a quick plant study, painting rocks and gardening, all with the final goal of turning Trafalgar’s garden into an inviting, clean space. Tyres that were placed in the garden as seats were cleared of the plants growing on them. All alien plant species had to go, including the grass, so that the fynbos they planted could thrive. Rocks were painted as decoration to line the garden. Each activity was an opportunity to learn about fynbos and indigenous vegetation from Greenpop while contributing to space for the students to enjoy and take care of.
