Cambridge Innovation Capital Launches £100M Fund to Boost British Deep Tech and Life Sciences
Cambridge Innovation Capital (CIC) has announced the launch of a new £100 million Opportunity Fund, aimed at supporting the growth of deep tech and life sciences companies in the UK. The fund, anchored by Aviva Investors and British Business Bank: British Patient Capital , seeks to address the UK's scale-up financing gap, which often forces promising startups to seek overseas funding.
The Opportunity Fund has already made its first two investments in Pragmatic Semiconductor, a leading chip designer and manufacturer, and Riverlane , a quantum error correction company. These investments highlight the fund's focus on high-impact, cutting-edge technologies with strong commercial potential.
CIC, established in 2013, has a unique relationship with the 英国剑桥大学 , providing privileged access to university spinouts and affiliated startups. The new fund builds on this foundation, targeting later-stage investments to help companies reach global competitiveness while remaining locally headquartered.
The launch of the Opportunity Fund aligns with the UK government's ambition to create Europe's Silicon Valley, with Cambridge at the heart of this transformation. By supporting home-grown technology businesses, CIC aims to foster innovation and drive economic growth in the UK.
