Calming the Fearful

Everywhere in the world there are people who are ruled by their fear, who will do everything and anything to protect themselves. Whole political parties and industries evolve for that purpose. Elections are won and lost based on politicians' promises to assemble force and to build fences to protect those who fear foreigners and criminals.

The world thinks we want to take them over, but this is not true. Rather, all this force is to protect those powerful voices among us whose fears will never go away, from the monsters in dark corners to those suspicious neighbors down the street. Keeping the fearful from worrying about things that go bump in the night is a much larger job than disarming and demilitarizing--much larger.
