Calm and steady...
Prioritizing what really matters in life will reward you beyond measure.

Calm and steady...

I’m very picky when it comes to my LinkedIn.?

For example, I manually vet every single connection request I receive before I accept.?

Crazy, I know… But it keeps my profile fresh and my inbox more or less clean.

Well… The inbox is never clean thanks to LinkedIn having a sucky inbox ????

But anyway, because of this habit, sometimes it takes me weeks or even months to accept a request (sorry if this is/was you).

Taking so long to get through my connection requests is not intentional by any means, but it got me thinking…

Napoleon Bonaparte would purposefully wait for 3 weeks before he’d open his mail.?

No matter who it is from or what it is about…

Could you imagine not checking your inbox for three weeks?

How much chaos that would cause and how many opportunities you’d miss out on…

The real question is… Would you though?

Napoleon had a different theory…

He was aware that not everybody was as calm and steady as he was.?

So he anticipated that most of the requests, warnings, “opportunities”, and other urgent matters he’d receive weren’t really urgent at all and would naturally solve themselves by the 3-week mark.?

And if they didn’t, he believed they deserved his attention then.?

In the meantime, he’d just lay back and chill.

This brings me to my point…?

When problems start stacking up in life, it’s important not to panic and lose your cool.

Now, I’m not telling you to sit back and do nothing about it, but you can’t lose your composure and allow for dread and worry to kick in over just any kind of bad news that someone brings you.?

If Napoleon jumped to every fire he was asked to put out, it would have broken his focus, and steered him away from his goals…

He probably would have lost his place on the throne really fast too.?

Because in reality, rarely is the problem as big as we make it out to be.?

So Rebel, remind yourself to stay in the present moment every day…

Take your problems at face value… for what they truly are.

And above all else…

Don’t jump at every fire you’re asked to put out.?

Sometimes they’ll burn out by themselves.?

That's a smart strategy to ensure quality connections. By vetting each request manually, you can maintain a high-quality network, which can be leveraged for various opportunities such as collaborations, partnerships, and referrals. This personalized approach sets you apart as someone who values meaningful connections, making your network more valuable and potentially leading to profitable ventures down the line.

?? Learning to prioritize the situations in a prompt manner depending on your role can mean life or death. Ex president of Ford Motor Company shared an acronym with me that I’ve never forgotten and often repeat. WIN What’s Important NOW Peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of all those things, and remain calm and steady in your heart. Appreciate you D. Dupree.

Bro, have you ever read about stoicism? This is exactly what it is and hearing about your "walk"in life with depression you would appreciate it - Seneca, one of the great stoic philosophers, wrote "we suffer more in imagination than in reality." One of the tenets of stoicism isn't about suppressing emotions - its about managing and tempering them with rational thought. You hit the nail on the head with this one. Now, please, accept my connection request. I've been waiting for a year and a half now!

Rebels get it... That's why they change the game.
