The Chat STOPS here: Elon Musk and friends at the Future of Life institute are asking for generative AI developers to take a break before AI breaks the world. They have written an open letter for anybody developing AI beyond GPT 4 capability to slow the F$%k down. They are extremely worried that we need to get a better grasp on how to control it before it controls us. I dunno, human history, if it's taught us one thing for sure, is that we're not very good at hitting the pause button, especially when profit and "winning" are at stake. While some groups pause, others will take advantage of the slow down to catch up, at least that's my humble opinion. According to ChatGPT: "Throughout history, humanity's relentless pursuit of progress, fueled by the twin engines of profit and competition, has often overshadowed the need for moderation and caution. The Industrial Revolution in the 19th century, for instance, rapidly transformed economies and societies, but also left a legacy of environmental degradation, exploitation of workers, and rampant urbanization." ChatGPT plugins are here, and you need to get on the Wait list: Like all new features of ChatGPT, OpenAI tests on a small spattering of "the faithful", and plugins are no different. And plugins are BIG. Plugins are NEXT LEVEL. Plugins are going to accelerate ChatGPT beyond search and writing assistance. One problem "probabilistic" engines like GPT models are they are not very good with math. Another problem is that you can research or plan a trip, for example, and then have to go to another app like Expedia to then book the flights, hotels, etc. Not for long. The new plugins will allow ChatGPT to not only browse the internet (something it can't do for most users so far), but it will allow for integration to keep you anchored in ONE app. Current plugins include Expedia for travel, InstaCart for ordering from local grocery stores, FiscalNote for legal/political/regulatory details for contracts, etc., OpenTable to book tables, and probably the BIGGEST one, Wolfram to make ChatGPT actually be able to do real math. According to ChatGPT (in the voice of Robin Williams): "Ladies and gentlemen, hold onto your hats and suspenders, because ChatGPT plugins are coming to town, and it's going to be a wild ride! Hoo-ha! You know, it's like the day we discovered fire, but for artificial intelligence! It's time to get on the Waitlist, folks, because this is bigger than big, it's NEXT LEVEL, I tell ya! Like a technological circus, ChatGPT is now juggling more than just search and writing assistance, it's bringing you the whole shebang!" You can learn more (and maybe get on the waitlist) HERE.

Midjourney blocks dude who created those Donald Trump arrest images: Pretty sure everybody reading this article saw those fake photos of Donald Trump being hauled away by the police. Midjourney didn't take that too lightly and has banned the journalist who created them. Another one popped up of Borris Johnson of the UK in the same light. These deep fakes are getting scary good, which on one hand, is just pure awesome, as we can now created images on the fly (as I do for this very newsletter!). This raises the whole idea of appropriate use of the technology, and there are those that think we should have restraints and there are those that think it's just censorship. What do you think? According to ChatGPT (in the voice of Hunter S. Thompson): "But my friends, let us not be so hasty in our judgments. For as the great Gonzo spirit flows through me, I cannot help but revel in the sheer absurdity of these phantasmagoric creations. Is it not a testament to the boundless potential of human ingenuity, to craft such expertly woven tapestries of deception?

Yet, in the same vein, we must consider the implications of this newfound power. Like a frenzied stampede of wild buffalo, the onslaught of deep fakes threatens to trample the fragile ecosystem of truth that we so desperately cling to. Do we impose restraints, binding the hands of these digital alchemists in the name of integrity, or do we champion the cause of unfettered expression and risk drowning in a deluge of falsehoods?"
