The Calling of Lot
There are no maverick moves in the LORD'S plans, and HIS Will, Will be done Period, so as we relive in the calling of Lot, or perhaps the dragging of Him to the LORD we will see that though many of the moves can look puzzling, but in the end HE works all things to HIS perfect plan.
We will Also note the HOLY SPIRIT forms our prayers, we NEVER, EVER Change the Will of GOD In our Prayers, HE instead conforms our prayers more and more to HIS Will.
Hope you enjoy this Look again at Lot's calling.
Genesis 19:1-28, 31-38
1 ? Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground.
2 And he said, "Here now, my lords, please turn in to your servant's house and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way." And they said, "No, but we will spend the night in the open square."
3 But he insisted strongly; so they turned in to him and entered his house. Then he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.
4 ? Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house.
5 And they called to Lot and said to him, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally."
6 So Lot went out to them through the doorway, shut the door behind him,
7 and said, "Please, my brethren, do not do so wickedly!
8 "See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man; please, let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you wish; only do nothing to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shadow of my roof."
9 And they said, "Stand back!" Then they said, "This one came in to stay here, and he keeps acting as a judge; now we will deal worse with you than with them." So they pressed hard against the man Lot, and came near to break down the door.
10 But the men reached out their hands and pulled Lot into the house with them, and shut the door.
11 And they struck the men who were at the doorway of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they became weary trying to find the door.
12 ? Then the men said to Lot, "Have you anyone else here? Son-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whomever you have in the city-take them out of this place!
13 "For we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the face of the LORD, and the LORD has sent us to destroy it."
14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, "Get up, get out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city!" But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking.
15 ? When the morning dawned, the angels urged Lot to hurry, saying, "Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city."
16 And while he lingered, the men took hold of his hand, his wife's hand, and the hands of his two daughters, the LORD being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city.
17 So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said, "Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed."
18 Then Lot said to them, "Please, no, my lords!
19 "Indeed now, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have increased your mercy which you have shown me by saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, lest some evil overtake me and I die.
20 "See now, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one; please let me escape there (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live."
21 And he said to him, "See, I have favored you concerning this thing also, in that I will not overthrow this city for which you have spoken.
22 "Hurry, escape there. For I cannot do anything until you arrive there." Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
23 The sun had risen upon the earth when Lot entered Zoar.
24 ? Then the LORD rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the LORD out of the heavens.
25 So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.
26 ? But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
27 ? And Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the LORD.
28 Then he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain; and he saw, and behold, the smoke of the land which went up like the smoke of a furnace.…..
31 Now the firstborn said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man on the earth to come in to us as is the custom of all the earth.
32 "Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father."
33 So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.
34 It happened on the next day that the firstborn said to the younger, "Indeed I lay with my father last night; let us make him drink wine tonight also, and you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father."
35 Then they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.
36 Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father.
37 The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day.
38 And the younger, she also bore a son and called his name Ben-Ammi; he is the father of the people of Ammon to this day.

This Is The WORD Of The LORD
Response By All: Thanks Be To GOD
Lesson: “You Can Run But You Can’t Hide” or Found On The Wrong Road Part 2
“The Angels Had To Drag Lot To Safety!”
The Bible is crystal clear it is the LORD who seeks us out and NOT the other way around.
So let us look at
1 Can we choose the wrong road?
2 Who Seized Who?
3 Where does the LORD actually find us?
1 Can we choose the wrong road?
Genesis Chapter 19 As many know is the true story of the Destruction of Sodom and Gomora, and the RESCUE of Lot and His Daughters.
It is possibly one of the most overlooked passages in the narrative of pathway to Salvation, and also quite possibly where we truly start to firmly misapply the whole Scriptural Rescue plan.
Again and each week we need to put on the glasses that are necessary to understand the Bible, so let’s actually read this out load;
Romans 3:10 as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE;
11 THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD;
What does this Remind us and it is Blunt?
WE CANNOT CHOOSE THE WRONG ROAD BECAUSE WE ALREADY ARE ON THE WRONG ROAD!!!
It is why when we hear sermons that exhort us on taking the proper road that the person Preaching does NOT know the Bible, as outside of GOD Given Spiritual Rebirth through the HOLY SPIRIT in Christ Jesus alone, we cannot choose.
There are two quick things I want you to notice from our second reading as a table setter;
First we need to know that Sodom and Gomora are truly decadent cities, and have such a reputation as to set up the infamous bartering passage between GOD and Abraham they are not negotiating due to Sodom and Gomora’s past reputation but present;
Genesis 18:31 And he said, "Now behold, I have ventured to speak to the Lord; suppose twenty are found there?" And He said, "I will not destroy it on account of the twenty."
32 Then he said, "Oh may the Lord not be angry, and I shall speak only this once; suppose ten are found there?" And He said, "I will not destroy it on account of the ten."
What do we know from the lens we are wearing?
That is correct there are NONE Righteous and NONE of their own capacity who seek after GOD, so any City in the world even today, could be inserted here really if the LORD willed, so these two are really true examples, and Abraham was not dealing from Strength. To put it another way Abraham could have negotiated down to for the sake of 1 righteous and Sodom as would our Towns would not be worthy of Sparing.
Also for the record and THIS IS IMPORTANT to understand, Lot and His Daughters WERE NOT SAVED do to their Righteousness but out of Mercy alone.
Next we need to notice that Lot is not repulsed by what is happening in Sodom to the point that his daughters are marrying men from there.
He does not have the House up for sale as the neighborhood has gone to Hell in a hand basket!
This allows us to be reminded it is in Christ alone that The FATHER the drags us to the correct road.
That brings us to our next point
2 Who Seized Who?
What did we see in Genesis 19, who sought out who??
Yes the LORD sought out Lot and his daughters.
What were Lot and the family doing?
That is correct living the life of Sodom, in fact Lot was to be found in the gate of the city meaning at that time he was involved in the Politics of Sodom.
We will also note that he is also accused of not being a native of Sodom and yet has set himself up as an Elder of the city, this is a charge we hear to this day when someone moves into town and runs for office don’t we.
Again, Don’t miss this detail Lot’s House IS NOT UP FOR SALE!
So again right out of the gate we see what narrative developing in the Bible?
Again and please don’t be upset as This one you may not have guess but that is OK as most who teach the Bible don’t see it either, The Reformed (True) understanding that the LORD seeks us, we don’t seek HIM.
Yes it is true that there is a day in our actually lives when by the power of the HOLY SPIRIT with our very own lips we have to publicly say “I really and fully believe in Jesus Christ as my LORD, KING, and Savior” but we must also come to understand that Ephesians 2:5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), is telling us the truth, before we were made alive we were dead!
That brings us to who really seizes who?
The Hebrew in verse 16 is crystal clear, 15 ? When morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, "Up, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away in the punishment of the city."
16 But he hesitated (mahahh or Lingered). So the men SEIZED (chazaq fasten) His Hand and the hand of his wife and the hands of his two daughters, for the compassion of the LORD was upon him; and they brought him out, and put him outside the city.
17 When they had brought them outside, one said, "Escape for your life! Do not look behind you, and do not stay anywhere in the valley; escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away."
The Angles have to actually Seize Lot and His Wife and Daughters and bodily remove or drag them from the City
So much for choosing themselves and had they what would have happened?
This sets up nicely our third point
3 Where does the LORD actually find us?
It is the same thing we will be seeing in our discussions over the next few weeks as Who is seeking Whom in our Genesis 3 last week, and Genesis 19 reading this week?
It is the LORD!
What are Lot and the family doing?
Yes living the life style they have become accustom to in Sodom and they are not thinking about moving.
This really is the story of our personal salvation, as it really is about the LORD bringing life to we the Dead in our sins.
But our Story of Lot and His daughters cannot be seen without putting on an additional set of lens, as we need to have in focus true Camels going through the real eye of a needle.
Please take a second at home to look at the eye of a sewing needle, and a life size photo or should ypu have one a real camel;
Can you physically push the camel through the needles eye?
Of Course not!
But why you might rightly be asking is this important and why does it matter?
Two excellent questions,
First we need to reread the last of our verses today as they are imperative to understand who the LORD saves.
Lot’s daughters get Lot drunk and have intercourse with him, and both become pregnant by incest, and the oldest daughter will become the Mother of the Moabites, while the youngest will become the mother of the Ammonites.
What do we know about the Ammonites?
1st Samuel 11:11 The next morning Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the camp at the morning watch and struck down the Ammonites until the heat of the day. Those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.
They were enemies of Israel
What do we know about Moabites?
Judges 3:28 He said to them, "Pursue them, for the LORD has given your enemies the Moabites into your hands." So they went down after him and seized the fords of the Jordan opposite Moab, and did not allow anyone to cross.
29 They struck down at that time about ten thousand Moabites, all robust and valiant men; and no one escaped.
2nd Samuel 8:2 He defeated Moab, and measured them with the line, making them lie down on the ground; and he measured two lines to put to death and one full line to keep alive. And the Moabites became servants to David, bringing tribute.
2nd Kings 3:18 'This is but a slight thing in the sight of the LORD; He will also give the Moabites into your hand.
They too were enemies of Israel.
But here is where Camels go through the Eyes of Needles as who is a descendant of Moab?
Ruth 1:22 So Naomi returned, and with her Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter-in-law, who returned from the land of Moab. And they came to Bethlehem at the beginning of barley harvest.
Ruth 4:13 ? So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife, and he went in to her. And the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son.
14 Then the women said to Naomi, "Blessed is the LORD who has not left you without a redeemer today, and may his name become famous in Israel.
15 "May he also be to you a restorer of life and a sustainer of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you and is better to you than seven sons, has given birth to him."
16 Then Naomi took the child and laid him in her lap, and became his nurse.
17 The neighbor women gave him a name, saying, "A son has been born to Naomi!" So they named him Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David.
That is correct David has Moabite blood flowing in his veins, and this means who else must have Moabite blood in HIS veins?
Yes, you are correct Our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ HIMSELF!
In fact throughout the Blood line of Jesus is the blood of Rahab the Harlot, there is another account of incest when Judah gets Tamar Pregnant when she dressed as a prostitute to get Judah to fulfill the Blood line, we have liars, cheats, murderers, and sinners of all types.
So perhaps you are asking why?
Because that is the real bloodline of we Humans.
But why are these important and how do they speak to “Where the LORD actually finds us?”
I hope by know you see it is plenty!
As for Jesus to be the Seed of the Woman HIS earthly line would have to be well, Human and ALL Humans are Sinner!
It is why it so sad when Churches look to those outside their doors as sinners, as it falls into the trap of Mark 2:16 When the scribes of the Pharisees saw that He was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they said to His disciples, "Why is He eating and drinking with tax collectors and sinners?"
Luke 15:2 Both the Pharisees and the scribes began to grumble, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them."
If Jesus refused to eat with Sinners and “Tax collectors” HE would be sitting at a table by HIMSELF.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;
By the Way these are the two verses that are the key to understanding all of the letter to the Romans and the Bible itself, so if you have a 1200 page commentary Romans use it as a door stop and read these two verses.
So the LORD can only save Sinners and the Church is full of them, and I your writer is Chief among Sinners, saved only by Mercy and Grace in Christ Jesus my LORD.
As we remember Jesus never once in History died for a righteous man as there are Non Righteous no not one, and HE alone is righteous period.
So it will be Christ alone who redeems us, Christ alone Who clothes us (see Zachariah 3 as well), the HOLY SPIRIT who Brings us to Life from the dead, and the FATHER who ordained us before the beginning of time.
As we have seen clearly in today’s lesson, Lot DID NOT save He and His Daughters, and in fact had to be dragged (Seized) from Sodom by the LORD alone!
So it really is in our salvation story.
It looks like a lot of the LORD’S doing, and that is the point it is, and HE even gives us the faith to believe in this greatest of Love Stories ever, HIS work of Redemption.
Benediction :Jude 1:24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,
25 To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen.
