Calling climate innovators

The Climate Adaptation Innovation Accelerator Programme seeks game-changing innovations to enhance resilience and tackle climate change in Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt, or those that can be scaled in any of these three countries.

The application deadline has now been extended to 13 August 2024, giving you more time to submit your solutions.

With US$200,000 available for climate startups, the WFP Innovation Accelerator and the Adaptation Fund are seeking innovative solutions that enhance climate adaptability and sustainable development in the most affected regions.

Innovation Updates

  • We welcomed Rania Dagash-Kamara, Assistant Executive Director for Partnerships and Innovation at WFP and WFP’s Executive Board members to explore how innovation can enhance WFP’s mission.
  • We sat down with WFP USA and our partners at Google to discuss the importance and power of innovation for social good. This was hosted at Google Headquarters in Mountain View, where we recently hosted our Humanitarian Innovation Accelerator Pitch Event.
  • Ahead of the launch of the Climate Adaptation Innovation Accelerator Programme, three workshops were held at WFP country offices in Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt in collaboration with national governments and other stakeholders. The workshops aimed to explore pathways for identifying and scaling local climate innovations.
  • WFP Guatemala is pioneering innovative solutions for innovative food systems, including anticipatory action models, disaster risk insurance and clean energy and drone technology initiatives.
  • The WFP Annual Performance Report 2023 sheds light on how WFP’s innovation work has supported its global efforts to save and change lives.
  • We discuss the value of backend processes, knowledge sharing and strategic collaborations that lay the groundwork for innovations to thrive and scale sustainably.
  • The Stability-and-Peace Accelerator, our collaboration with CGIAR and IWMI, will support innovations working in fragile and conflict-affected settings, including the resilient communities we celebrate on World Refugee Day.
  • Human-centred design can help humanitarians and development workers identify and prioritize key challenges in operations to better serve communities in need.
