Calling on all FIDIC contract users – book now for key London event in December!

The programme for this year’s Official FIDIC International Contract Users’ Conference & Awards has been finalised and bookings are now flowing in from legal and contractual experts from around the world. This important event for FIDIC contract users takes place on 2-4 December 2024 at the Park Plaza London Riverbank Hotel and attendees are encouraged to reserve their places as soon as possible.

Following last year’s highly successful event, this year’s conference promises to deliver even more valuable insights for professionals working with FIDIC contracts, with a range of topical discussions, break-out sessions and briefings planned over the three days of the event.

Programme highlights include: -

• Pre- and post-conference workshops on claims management and dispute avoidance under FIDIC contracts.
• A series of sessions on key topics, including the FIDIC Carbon Management Guide, the evolving role of the engineer and global contract developments.

Day 1 overview

Day 1 of the conference includes a topical session presenting FIDIC’s Carbon Management Guide for FIDIC Contracts, followed by an important discussion examining the crucial role of the engineer under FIDIC contracts. Drawing on real-world experiences, speakers will examine the responsibilities and practicalities of the engineer’s role while also addressing how these duties are rapidly evolving in an industry undergoing significant change. The afternoon of day 1 will include a session looking at the global use of FIDIC contracts, with special emphasis on the experiences of users worldwide. Speakers from financial institutions, multilateral development banks (MDBs) and major contractors using FIDIC contracts will share their perspectives on working with FIDIC forms for their projects worldwide. The first day will also include an opportunity to question members of the FIDIC contracts committee, a discussion on the dynamics of sub-contracting and two discussion tables on PPP contracts and the latest case law developments.

Day 2 overview

Day 2 of the conference starts with a showcase of noteworthy projects from around the world, offering insights into diverse approaches and innovations in infrastructure development. This is followed by a session introducing FIDIC’s approach toward relational contracts, presenting its Collaborative Contract framework along with key concepts and contractual provisions. Following this, we will also look at the application of AI in procurement, contracting, contract management and dispute resolution. The afternoon session will update attendees on the latest industry developments on construction adjudication and the application of DAABs and the conference will close with an essential session on arbitration practices within FIDIC contracts, offering insights from experienced arbitrators.
