Finishing off the year with the 50th edition of THE WEEKLY seems serendipitous. Bitcoin is also closing the year at around US$50,000 if the current value stays the same. And if 2021 is anything to go by, it’s going to be an interesting year ahead.

Last week I (virtually) sat down with The Independent’s Anthony Cuthbertson on a crypto panel discussion with Dr. Iwa Salami, Associate Professor in Law at the University of East London, and Will Harborne, CEO of the decentralised cryptocurrency exchange DeversiFi.

It was a great chat about where the crypto market is heading next year, new trends like play-to-earn and NFTs and other recent developments.

So what’s in store for 2022…

My prediction is that the bull run will continue into 2022 and some lesser-known cryptocurrencies will enjoy significant growth, as well as sectors like play-to-earn games.?

?? MY COIN PICKS TO WATCH ??

1. Bitcoin

Bitcoin has a very good shot of hitting six figures but its price will begin to cool off at some point in 2022. I think we’re going to see Bitcoin at US$32,000 this time next year, we’re going to pull down but we’ll stay sideways. It will continue to be the top cryptocurrency.

2. Luna

Terra’s native token Luna is a fascinating coin because it has a decentralised algorithmic stablecoin attached to it. Coin holders of Luna can stake their tokens to earn rewards and they have voting rights on governance proposals for the ecosystem. It’s currently the ninth top coin, valued at US$82.26 per coin.

3. Tether (USDT)

Tether’s USDT is the fourth biggest coin and is one to watch, following news of Myanmar allowing it to be used as legal tender. It’s a stablecoin, which is backed by an equivalent amount of US dollars and its price is pegged to US$1.

4. Smooth Love Potion (SLP)

SLP is the NFT (non-fungible token) used to trade and earn rewards in the play-to-earn game Axie Infinity and it’s traded on public exchanges such as Binance. Axie Infinity is the most popular NFT game, with over two million daily active users, the majority of which are in the Philippines. The token currently ranks at 438 on Coin Market Cap and it’s now being accepted as a form of payment for rent by some landlords in the Philippines.

5. Ethereum

The second most popular crypto (ETH) is the native token for the Ethereum network, which is a decentralized blockchain for smart contracts and many NFTs are secured on the network. ETH is currently about US$4,000 and I? think it’s going to drop to around the US$2,900 mark.

As we head into Christmas and the new year, don’t forget to give yourself some space to reset, unwind and enjoy the holidays.

It’s often the most stressful and challenging period for entrepreneurs because we’re conflicted with spending time on our businesses and spending time with family and friends. But I submit to you that you can do both, and you should.

Use the time to reset. Reset your routines, your behaviours and goals. Take some time to read and learn from other successful leaders from books and online material. It’s a great time to get inspired and motivated for the year ahead.
