Hello Chicagoland!

While we batten down the hatches for winter here in the north-midwest, its also that time of year when many orgs like to conduct an inventory. If we were to inventory cybersecurity workers, we would come up woefully short.

So here's the ask: go fill out your WiCyS Chicago Chapter Affiliation! Here's how -

Here is the good news - the cybersecurity world has come a long way towards inclusion in the 11 years since Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) was launched in 2013?by Dr. Ambareen Siraj . New grants, programs, and scholarships are being announced every day. WiCyS is proud to stay at the forefront of creating new security professionals, and supporting the ones we already have.

The (ISC)2 Cybersecurity Workforce Study 2022 says we need 3.4 million more security people to fill the workforce need, with 377,000 of those vacancies located in the United States.

If women are only one quarter of the security workforce, imagine what a huge impact it would have to move that needle to the middle! The inimitable Jen Easterly called for equal and diverse gender representation within CISA by 2030 and hopes to get all the other federal agencies in on the mission - an initiative that WiCyS also backs. This is why the ongoing support of nonprofits and resource groups that recruit and support women in cybersecurity is so critical.
