Called to Serve - Kiu, Kenya

Not a single day goes by where my mind doesn't wander to thoughts of Kiu, Kenya. I was told when I traveled there back in October 2022, that the experience would be a memorable one and it sure has lived up to that. While in Kiu, there was so much warmth, joy, faith and grace in everyone I met and in everything I got to do.

Kiu Primary School - The students had prepared a presentation for us.

Now because of the hard work of this community and the support of Church of the Nativity, Kiu is ready to graduate from their The 410 Bridge program and become a fully independent community. At least 7 years of support & fellowship has brought Kiu to this point. I couldn't be more proud and humbled to have been just a small part of their incredible journey.

Ndalani Primary School - We taught a lesson on the value of virture and spent the afternoon playing on the hill side.

In August 2023 I have an opportunity to go back to Kiu with a team of missionaries from Church of the Nativity to celebrate the Kiu community and all they have accomplished. I cannot wait to reconnected with members of the community who welcomed me into their homes and lives last October with such generosity and grace. The trip will take place from August 12-20, 2023 and like last time, I will be fundraising to cover the cost of travel and lodging.

If you have it in your heart to support me either financially or faithfully I would truly appreciate it.

Below are some pictures capturing true moments of joy, light and happiness.

Marketplace day. My group, got to spend half a day working alongside business owners in the marketplace in Kiu. I was paired up with Mwende at her grocery stand. She put me right to work sorting carrots, peeling potatoes and snapping peas. It felt like being back home in my grandmother's kitchen.

Making chapati, a traditional Kenyan staple that mirrors the American tortilla or pita. This room acted as kitchen, dining room and living room all in one.
