It is called ‘the present’ because it is a gift

Living the present moment is something that we are all aware of, but that few of us really do because of the haste, work, stress and many other factors that make the days all the same.

Only when we are sick or in hostile situations, are we aware of the here and now, of our present that we so often ignore without realizing it.

Do not stick to the past, do not dream of the future, focus on the present.
~ Gautama Buddha ~

However, sacrificing our present to think about the future does not allow us to enjoy the "here and now". This "here and now" that encompasses the meaning of life, all the positive things, all our happiness.

The haste, the stress, the awareness of always thinking about the future prevent us from looking to the present and seeing what we have achieved so far. We cannot enjoy our successes, forcing ourselves to always look ahead to us.

It is certain that the present lasts only a moment. A minute that has already passed can be considered past and the minute we are heading for is our future.

Time is something ephemeral and savoring it is difficult. The curious thing is that we attach more importance to our past and our future than to our present. That present that passes us so quickly before our eyes that we do not even realize it.

We're used to looking at where we walk, instead of focusing on our steps.

Clearly, all of this is not to say we don't have to think about our past or the future. The past helps us learn and move forward, while the future helps us achieve our goals, motivate us and make us dream of what we want. But where is the present in all this?

We should live the present, as well as value the past and the future, and, honestly, as I have not yet learned to do it myself, any comment and sharing may be appreciated...

True. That's also the pivotal lesson of The Power of Now (Eckhart Tolle) the first step toward enlightenment is to escape the control of the Ego, rising above the stream of the "mental noise" including thoughts, concerns and emotions and observing it from the outside from the perspective of the pure existence.

The life teach us very well. It is important to be with all our senses to the present and ask :?What do you want to teach me?. Thank you for sharing.

My mother always say: "I wanna stay at home by the fire", in my opinion is the way she like to live the present, feeling good and safe. Soo far my lesson is that we should dream big but life simple and give to each of your day some time to stay by your "fire".

Interesting read: in my experience (both a long-term meditation practitioner and as a teacher), it is fairly a fairly simple process to learn to dwell in the present moment. It tend to take a bit of instruction (learning a method that would work for you), a bit of practice to get the hang of it (as we are typically in the grip of our thinking mind, which is a wonderful servant but a terrible master), and then to cultivating mindfulness and the habit of being present in our lives, actualizing the practice and reaping the benefits, which includes equanamity, contentment, appreciation and compassion, among other things. The simplest method I have found myself is to relax any tension in your body, relax your mind by letting go of anything you are holding on to and then to sit "with your body like a mountain, breath like the wind, and mind like the open sky", allowing thoughts, phenomena and emotions to just come and go as they please, and then just let everything settle, effortlessly. My two cent′s worth: if you would like to discuss this further, feel free to PM me.
